Calms and St John's Wart

I am going through therapy at the moment and it's proving to be really tough.

My anxiety has returned and I'm letting things around me fall apart. Not severely but my motivation to do anything is really low and I'm binge eating a lot which is making me very unhappy.

Rather than go through the rigmarole of going back to my GP as I am hoping the therapy will improve things I was thinking about St John's Wart and Calms.

I am keen to hear about people's experiences of it so I can weigh up my options.

I'm a big fan of St. John's Wort (not Wart Xmas Wink ) and use it to get me through my seasonal meh feeling, caused by lack of light. I live in Germany, where I can get it at a high dosage on prescription.

When I went looking recently in Boots there was nothing that even came close to that in strength, so I think in order for it to be effective you would need to double the dose. I take 900mg per day in a single tablet, but the strongest I found in the UK was 500mg, so i just took two a day. It does take around four weeks to start having an effect (but then so do regular ADs) so don't give up if you don't notice a difference at the beginning.

Some people say they become more sensitive to light as a consequence (chance would be a fine thing right now), and apparently it can screw up your Pill, so you might need to rethink contraception.

The other thing I'm doing right now is going to a really good yoga class, which is great for getting you to relax, and also teaches breathing techniques which you could try to apply if you get anxiety attacks. Once the weather gets better I'll try to force myself out to jog a few times a week, because depression can be a vicious circle at this time of year. Being stuck inside makes your depression worse and demotivates you even more, which makes you even less likely to get out and about...

Best of luck - I hope it works out for you.

Oops would you believe me if I said it was auto correct? Grin

Thank you for your view on it. I am going to give it a try.

I definitely think I need to get out more even if it is for a walk. I will try and aim to get out for a walk more.

SJW is great but you do need the 900mg dose at the very least. This will be 2 or 3 of the pills you get in the UK. It is very expensive here. Better deals from US on e-herb

Is it suitable for use with Kalms? I was thinking of using this to try and sleep better.

I find the SJW makes me sleep better anyway and calms me down. I take the full dose at night. Every one seems to react differently though. I would start off on one at night for a week then two at night for a week and build up from there. Give it chance.

I've just started St Johns Wort (wart) Xmas Grin (2 days) now, never tried it before as always been on the Pill but coming off the pill now. I have been feeling down and anxious lately so hoping this works.
