I can't live like this anymore

I am so fed up. Have been on sertraline for a while now and it's made no difference. I still have panic attacks anytime I have to go out, still haven't slept for more than an hour a night.
The flashbacks are happening every day Sad
I can't carry on like this, dd deserves so much better.
Counselling is like a weekly form of torture, sheer hell with absolutely no benefit.

Phone the Samaritans. Seriously.

shriekingnora · 29/10/2012 17:46

Sertraline can be increased to double what you are on at the moment. Please go back to your GP. And in the short term, call the Samaritans.

I can't stop crying. God why can't I just be normal. Sad

Nobody is normal. Ring GP now (if they're open). In the very short term go and make yourself a cup of tea - doing something routine will calm you down a bit. Keep breathing and keep talking to us.

Thankyou, I feel so ridiculous. I'm going to phone the gp first thing tomorrow, this is just so unfair on dd.

It's also unfair on you. You matter as well. I am on 150mg of sertraline and started on 50mg. They increase it in 50mg increments. It took a while to get it right - went to doctor, got prescription, felt better for having acted, got a little better, got worse again, went back to doctor and repeat x2. Have you felt any better at all since going on it?

CuppaCiggieBiccieBliss · 29/10/2012 18:54

No it hasn't made any difference at all. I still don't sleep for more than an hour a night, nothing changed. I think I'm just a lost cause. I don't know, the meds don't work, I can't deal with counselling, maybe I just have to accept that they won and they should have just killed me when they had the chance.

Please phone the Samaritans. There's nothing you could say that will shock them, and if you just want to hang on the line in silence they will do that too.

weegiemum · 29/10/2012 19:36

Not read all thread but with pnd I was on 150mg then 200mg for 8 weeks. Quite a few people need to be on a high dose before coming down enough of a dose. I came off sertraline (after 11 years) in sept last year. Pray and hope you can too!!

CuppaCiggieBiccieBliss · 29/10/2012 19:50

Thankyou. I just wish there was something to take it away.

I'm going to echo other advice on here - talk to your GP. Therapy is incredibly personal and if you don't have a connection with the therapist the therapy will not help and so there has to be a way of changing. However if you want to give it up because it is challenging you then don't give up, carry on - that is a way forward.

You are asking for help and that is a good sign (I know it doesn't feel like it).
I hope you're feeling better today. Let us know how you get on.
