I'm really sorry if this sounds negative....

If you can find any other way of coping please try it.

Diaz is SO addictive. I ended up in rehab.

Hi Cola, the Dr won't allow you to become addicted as they rarely give regular prescriptions for diazepam. They're only used short term, often just to help people sleep.

2mg is a very small dose and one a day for a few days won't cause addiction.

Ah, didn't see the new posts.

I've been on diazepam on and off due to mental illness for the last 5 years and haven't become addicted.

In small doses it can help with pain as it will relax muscles. 2mg is a small dose. 0.5mg, which is what you're taking will have a negligible effect, if any at all, so taking that little is rather pointless.

Speak to your dr about your concerns. My prescription is for 2mg 3 x per day. I only ever use it if I really need it when unwell, and often find that 1 x 2mg once a day is enough. As long as you're sensible with it you'll be ok.

I have been given a few 2 mg diazipan to take wen I need them . Been suffering with daily headaches and migraine ., for which I have imigran radis. However, before that I had amitriptyline to take at night , they had some odd side effects too. So don't take them anymore, but the do help you go yo sleep, but always wake up with a start and heart pounding!
So I felt worse. Now I'm in the anxiety vicious circle at the moment .
Can't relax very well and get very agitated. I worry a lot about my headaches which has given me anxiety. Been to docs 4/5 times now.
Magnesium is good yo take before Ben as it helps with nerves , also herbal tea before bed . I do have panic attacks which are scary, but I'm learning to work through them . Diazipan only wen needed is ok but not long term , just having a couple in my cupboard just in case is very reassuring. Good luck, xx

Hi what makes a doctor prescribe diazepam rather than ADs?

Report
sortingmyselfoutslowly · 07/11/2017 21:59

I wS prescribed diazepam alongside ADS to help with the panic and adjust to the side effects. But I can't take them whilst driving or working. They are good for helping me switch off in the evening. I would never use them for more than 3-4 days although I was prescribed 28. Only had 2 so far.

I been subscribed diazepam 2mg for anxiety and panic attacks and got myself into a right state through panicking about taking them but reading this lot has helped because everyone has positive things to say about them

Diazepam is amazing!! My gp lets me have 10 2mg a month, after a particularly stressful day I lay on the sofa and take one and meditate for an hour. Take one, you will feel your anxiety vanish.

I love Diazepam Grin They were lifeslifesaver for me during a really bad health anxiety flare up. I took them for 2 weeks until I had seen a consultant and then stopped - with no issues. I took a small dose (2mg)... I carry one I had left over in my bag for emergencies but I haven't needed it yet (touch wood) Smile

Sorry but found this thread while looking for some information on diazepam and wanted to add this as a warning.

Dh was prescribed these to help with severe anxiety. He changed after taking the first pill but it grew worse over time. I saw the kind, caring man I love change into an aloof, angry stranger. He is a shell of his former self.

He had a break from taking them due to not being able to get to our GP for his prescription for various reasons. The first week was hard as he was obviously withdrawing Sad but when that was out the way he returned. He saw then how much he had changed and agreed to stop taking them. We had our life back. Unfortunately we ran into some financial difficulties and the stress pushed him over the edge. His GP and support worker told him to start taking the diazepam again and he did and now I'm back to walking on eggshells to try not to set him off. He's back to slumping on the settee, doing nothing but flying into angry rages. I feel like I'm living a nightmare. I know that if he doesn't stop taking them soon, our marriage will end. I don't know which of us will end it, him in anger or me in desperation, but it is heading that way.

It's wonderful that they help some people but please be aware that they can have a bad side. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. He takes no more than he is prescribed to take but this has still happened. From reading this thread it sounds like he may be in a minority, but I have been doing a lot of research and he is far from alone in reacting this way.

That sounds awful cannae Sad I think every drug reacts different to different people... I'm lucky as Diazepam worked great for me, as does fluoxetine, yet some people react really badly to that too x

Thank you panicky. I don't want to scare people off but I do think everyone should be aware of the risks and then if they are unlucky enough to be affected negatively, maybe they will notice and understand the reasons why and see that it's not the right medication for them. Dh was suicidal the first time he stopped, while going through withdrawals. Sorry it's all been such a horrible time I actually forgot that part. So we potentially have that to look forward to at some point in the future.

I can see from this thread they do help some people. I must admit my experience has left me feeling extremely angry towards this drug and all those involved in it's production and supply. I can see it isn't all bad but it certainly can be destructive. Sad

Hi my depression anxiety and panic attacks are through the roof at the mo 😱 my gp has prescribed diazepam 2mg 3 times a day , I’ve only took 1 dose today and don’t feel any different ! Suppose it’s early days , don’t really want to take them daily Just help me to go out and feel relaxed , do they work?

Hi Lorrainejay, I have the same experience today. Just git a 2mg diagram and though drowsy, I don't feel any change in my symptoms. What symptoms do you get with a panic attack? I am just not convinced mire are that. For example I woke up today with a pounding heart (110bpm), breathlessness, diarrhea and panicked. I called an ambulance, third time in a month but they said anxiety. I have almost an episode a day and have seen numerous doctors/done lots of blood tests in the last month.

Hi salonikia my panic starts with shaking hands , feeling like I am going to pass out , I get hot sweat and feel sick , I have to remove myself from wherever I am and it’s embarrasing , I hate it , I only ever feel safe is when I am at home , I recently had a bereavement which has pushed me over the edge and I am suffering with a health problem at the moment and It’s making my anxiety worse

Sorry to hear that lorrainejay.. It feels so unfair to have to deal with the stressor and then the panic attacks.
Do your panic attacks last for a few moments only; cause my problem is that I have light-headedness, slightly but tremor and nausea all day and then I get some worse episodes that feel like heart attacks. That's why I am questioning whether it's just anxiety.
I spoke with the my GP by the way and ye said that it may take a few doses for the diagram to start working for anxiety.

The first time I took one on Friday I was massively drowsy for hours. The next day wasn't that bad but now it ' s the fourth day, I took one at 9:30 am and I am still off my face at 13:30. So yeah, if you are not used to it, and take it occasionally, make sure you have somebody to look after your kids etc for the day.
