Hi,

Has anyone tried hypnotherapy for insomnia caused by postnatal depression?x

Yes, I have. My mum is a hypnotherapist (retired) and she gave me two sessions (even though you are not supposed to treat family members) and I also use a hypnotherapy CD on my ipod when I can't sleep (still do now on occasion) and it worked for me, along with relaxation techniques and CBT. Hope you are ok, it's very hard not being able to sleep and PND insomnia is one of those little-known conditions which I had never, ever heard of when I had it, despite lots of googling.

Hi, yes I did but it didn't help. However I think this was because I was also suffering from anxiety and I was so adrenalised that I could just not relax into it and the tape he did for me was just irritating. At the time I didn't realise that I was suffering from PND however a chat with the HV and then doctor and I was put on ADs...within a few months my sleep improved considerably and I recovered fully within a year or so.
That was just my experience though, I hope you better results if you decide to give it a go,
Take care x

Yes I think they say 4-8 weeks to get full effect, if they are not helping after that time your doctor will probably consider increasing the dose or changing meds. I would have expected some improvement by 4 weeks though, I would go back to your doctors.
