Can anyone recommend any books to help with a negative attitude please?

I wasn't sure which category to ask this question, here seemed appropriate, I think

I am looking at getting some books to read to help me with my negative attitude and general 'down-ness'. I am fairly sure I have been suffering with depression, which has improved greatly but there's always been a very negative-ness about me and it's starting to piss me off now. If it's pissing me off then that's not a good sign to how it comes across to others...right?

Does anyone have any recommendations of books I can read to help me with my negativeness and general grumpiness?

ANy other helpful suggestions of pulling myself out of being a 'Victor Meldrew' gratefully received.

Thanks

A counsellor recommended "cognitive behavioural therapy for dummies". Please don't be offended by "for dummies" it just means, for beginners.

I found it really useful, it focuses on how to change your negative thinking into a more positive attitude and seeing the good in life rather than the worst that can happen. Apparently, that is catastrophising, I didn't even know I did it!

I found the book really useful, it will help you identify your "core beliefs" (the feelings and thoughts that you have about yourself) and help you challenge them. I read it from cover to cover.

Good luck

thanks shaky. Not offended at all. After posting this I had a look on Amazon and ordered positve phsycology for dummies. Just been back on and ordered the one you recommended too.

I hope they help.

I did complete a firewalk a few months ago and the training for that was inspirational and a lot about attitudes to things, that helped enormously but day to day I just feel I am so negative it's horrible, I hate being like it.

Wow [chinchilla]!!!!

That's awesome! Well done!

I'm very sure you will find some elements in that book that will help you.

Maybe you could benefit from a chat with your gp, just to find out whether you actually are experiencing depression and whether you need any treatment. A chat with a doctor wouldn't hurt, the worst they could say is " yes, you are depressed, would you like some antidepressants?"

You have the choice whether to say yes or no. You are in control.
