Quetiapine and sleeping for England

Hi, due to sleeplessness for over a year, going through a divorce and settlement with an abusive and un-coperative shit man, plus a v small amount of cannabis, I had a short psychotic episode (really, it felt like dreaming while awake) about 3 weeks ago and was admitted to an assessment ward where I came off paroxatine and was stabilised with olanzapine.

I was discharged afte 5 days, continuing on 20 mg paraxatine, with the addition of 100mg quetiapine to take at night. Yes I certainly needed the quetiapine to begin with, but am now sleeping a lot during the day as well. Ex has only just moved out of the house (yesterday in fact), and I'm seeing my psych next week.

I just wondered if this was normal for taking quetiapine - I have been on it about 3 weeks. There is a back history, I believe most of my mh problems stem from living with an abuser, won't go into it in this post, but can answer questions. To me it feels like I've caught up with my sleep and now the quetiapine is overdoing things.

Obviously I'll speak with my psych about this.

Re-reading before posting, it's earlier days than it feels, but I'd still like to know others' experiences. Not smoking anything but fags atm.

Yes, quetiapine does knock you out. It gets better, but was too much for me so I came off it.

It got so bad that I rang the crisis team on Sat, who told me to ring 111, who got a GP to ring me back and said I could halve dose. This is worse than when I was depressed! Hope psych will understand tomorrow.

The sleepiness can disappear as you get used to it.

I'm on 600mg of quetiapine and yes at first it can make you sleepy, but after a while you can manage - if not I would be a zombie on this dose!

Try taking the dose about 2 hours before you want to go to sleep and go to sleep at a reasonable time and you should be OK during the day.

Feeling a lot lot better since yesterday, and psych and friends say I am looking well! I must admit I have no complaint about getting a good night's sleep. Thanks all for your reassurance :)
