Coming off fluoxetine

Basically I really want to. Have been cutting down my dose from 20mg to one every other day and have done this for a week.

Today Ive had about 4 panic attacks. Have had none for 6wks.

Is this related to coming off the tablets?

Anyone had similar experiences?

Want to come off them as my skin and hair are terrible on them and I would love another dc next yr.

It's very common. The every other day thing is a bad idea, your body needs a constant. I hope she doesn't mind me mentioning her but go to strawberry17 profile, there is a link to her blog. It's invaluable x

Lovely I will, the hot flushes have started today. Managed to get in to see my dr next Monday, ill keep trying.

How else do you come off them??

I'm on 20mg fluoxetine & pregnant, was also on it when pregnant with son 2.6 who is very healthy.

Not that I'm saying don't come off them if you want to, but it doesn't have to be a barrier to having children.

Wow really MrsHelsBels!

I was told it was an absolute no go area. They have worked brilliantly for my mood etc but have had a terrible effect on my skin and hair. Ive only been taking them for 4 months or so and if im honest I am coming off them earlier than I would otherwise and I am expecting to have a tough time doing it.

I hate taking them but mainly because they are stopping me from completing my family and this doesnt help with my recovery because its hindering my future plans.

Can I be rude and ask what your dr said to you when you got pregnant. I dont think ive had the best medical advise. I was told under no circumstances get pregnant on them and I shouldnt even be considering another baby if I have depression.

I was on another antidepressant and spoke to my doctor about it several times before I got married. I've tried coming off antidepressants many times & it never works, whereas medication keeps me stable. My doctor said Prozac was fine, obviously it would be better not to be on it at all but that just wasn't going to happen in my case. I did have extra growth scans to ensure baby was growing properly but other than that no problems.

On 20mg a day you can also breastfeed but that didn't work out for me. I did suffer very bad PND with son & my dose was upped but am over all that now.

I guess different doctors have different opinions but my son hasn't been adversely affected at all & hopefully this one coming won't be either.

Good luck with it all anyway.

You're welcome! As I said I discussed it with my doctor before falling pregnant & it was decided I would switch to Prozac as there were more studies on that than the newer pqqqqwwwwwweeeeeeeeerrrrrrttggglSmilexvjjjjnniiiippuupplkqlpBiscuitBlushHmmpopiGrinquiqwrrtuoaoipp

Out of all the anti d's Prozac is the safest to be on whilst pregnant.

cupcake78 · 06/08/2012 17:44

What are the risks then?

OP posts:
MrsHelsBels74 · 06/08/2012 18:16

Don't know the risks but I had growth scans at 28, 32 & 36 weeks with first pregnancy. Only had one at 28 weeks this time. I think I had extra antenatal appointments too just to make sure I wasn't suffering from antenatal depression.

Ooooow, I'm getting excited GrinGrinGrin
