I am feeling really scared at the moment. for the past few weeks, i have slowly began to feel less involved with everything and everyone, except my daughter but even that is hard sometimes. i just want to curl up and disappear. but feel guilty for feeling this way. i have alot going on in my life a the moment which is all very stressful, but i'm usually more in control but now I'm finding it difficult to concentrate. i feel a bit silly writing this, but i'm not sure what i can do to feel better about myself.

I started here for this very reason, I think depression is an umbrella term and can cover many conditions (I am not an expert and may not be able to help).

But I'm really sorry that you're going through this and you are not alone. Don't feel alone, talk to people, see your GP or chat on here. xxx

Hi OP, how old is your daughter? Have you had problems with depression before this? Is someone else at home with you, ie a DP, who can care for you?

I'm sorry you're going through this.

Hi ilmamlm

Im also in a tough place at the moment and can completely sympathise with trying to keep it together
Is this something you have been through before?
It's all new to me and I've trawled previous threads trying to find some help that doesn't involve medication.

Hello ilmamlm, how are you feeling today?

Hi ilmamm - you sound like you are describing depression. I am not a medic but have a fair bit of experience of mental ill health, especially depression and anxiety. Sometimes if the stresses and strains of life get to great, it can cause depression, and I honestly think that you are experiencing the first signs of depression, probably quite mild at the moment, but I do urge you to see a GP and tell him/her how you are feeling and you won't be telling them anything that they have heard many many times before.

It is a symptom of depression that we feel we should be able to do something to make us better, and unfortunately this isn't completely true. I am a firm believer in ADs as they have been a life saver to me. Once your mood has lifted, then there are things you can do to help - nothing unusual really, just making sure you get some exercise in the fresh air once a day, not isolating yourself (we want to withdraw when we have depression) and there are times that it is ok, but we also need to try to get going and not isolate ourselves.

First things first, I think you need to see your GP. Most of them have a sort of checklist and they will ask you questions about the major symptoms of depression and score you, and then decide whether you are mildly, moderately or severely depressed, and take whatever action is necessary. Mostly you will be offered ADs and possibly counselling but there is usually a waiting list.

Kepp posting............there's lots of support on here and you are certainly not alone - it's just so much worse than physical illness isn't it because people understand that but so many don't understand mental illness, and that makes it worse.

When you speak to your GP, there are also a range of simple blood tests which can be done to rule out a physical cause of your anxiety and problems concentrating. These include a ferritin test for iron levels and tsh/t4 test for thyroid. Often these physical problems can occur at the same time as stressful events in life, either because diet suffers (lack of iron) or stress affects our bodies (thyroid). In fact I would recommend starting with the tests which take a few days for results to come through and then discussing things further with the GP once they are ruled in/out.
Hope you are doing OK today
