Hi,
I was the victim of the worst crime a woman can suffer several months ago, and am currently signed off work with stress. To say I'm struggling is a huge understatement. This incident happened after a work event, with colleagues etc so as you can imagine, I'm constantly reminded every time I think of work!

A friend who works in mental health has been so 'un-helpful'. She texted me yesterday asking how I was and upon hearing I was signed off with stress, says she was feeling tired too and might take some time off work. She previously compared what happened to me with her money issues. I've said to her that she is incredibly judgmental and she didn't like this at all. The mocking tone in her voice was so patronising, and she made me feel awful. The irony is that she says I have no empathy, and I'm now totally confused.
She says she has experienced certain situations in life which make her want to help women and support them. None of my other friends try and tell me what to do or how to live my life.
Am I being unreasonable and missing something?

YANBU.
Very sorry about what happened to you.
It sounds like she has no empathy at the moment at least, and peehaps that is why she said it,as she recognises that about herself.
What has she been like in the past?
It sounds to me like her own issues, perhaps the money issues are getting on top of her,and ruining her judgement.
She is being totally out of order at present. It may be best to stay out of her way for the time being.
I hope your other friends are being way more supportive.

She said we have different view on what friends are and that I dropped her when I was dating. Her reason for saying this, was because I didn't spend the whole day with her like we usually do. She was highly offended when I said I was going out in the evening.
Another irony is that she is quite high up in her profession and constantly offers advice but is highly offended and doesn't listen when its offered back. She feels she is the expert, having worked in the field for 10 years.
When I complained to her about work issues in the past she said get over it. These work issues when described to another friend were seen as serious, and I actually felt heard.
I know I'm vulnerable and really need to toughen up. I'm not good with confrontations at all, and have been reading up a lot on how to deal with difficult situations.

This person may be a "friend",but she is not "friendly"
When you have gone to her in the past about work issues, again she was worse than a chocolate teapot.
This is so not being a friend I'm afraid.
We especially need our friends in time of trouble, and she is not being there for you.
I would advise you to ditch her, because actually, she is making things worse for you,and you really dont need that.
If you had posted all this is am I being unreasonable, you would have had 30 posts by now,all shouting ditch her.

Amillionyears is right - ditch her.
