Why are mornings so bad?

Does anyone else experience this? My anxiety is just SO bad in the morning. Instead of waking up refreshed and ready for the day,
I wake up with a tummy full of acid. Heart racing, breathing out of sync and aching muscles. And a real feel of doom/dread

Please tell me I'm not the only one

Hi Nina and *Strawberry
after a bout of uncontrollable crying (and I use to never cry) dh took me to an emergancy appointment at the docs.
Luckily I saw one who is experienced in mental health. Im not getting the w/d effects from the paroxetine anymore such as the brain zaps and its just good old fashioned panic/anxiety Im suffering from now.
She has upped my lorazapam as I was only taking it once a day and it doesnt stay in your system for very long. She told me with prozac that what ever symptoms they make worse (in my case anxiety) is what they help the best.

so onwards and upwards for me x

Oh glad you got to the GP gruffalo - not sure what you mean by not getting the w/d effects from the paroxetine anymore such as the brain zaps. What are they if you don't mind saying. Also good that she has upped the lorazapam (which I think is a tranquilliser for anxiety?) Ah well hope she's right about the Prozac. Did she give you another appointment - I think the surgery need to keep an overview of you, so regular appointments to review your meds and how you are, should be happening.

Did you feel a bit better as the day wore on. I notice your post was at 9.14 tonight, and your thread was called "Why are Morning so Bad" and it was/is aways the same for me -mornings awful, regardless of what happens later in day.

Any chance of any help with the children as you are struggling so much at the moment.

Take care and don't despair .............NNxx

Brain zaps feel like u have an electric current running across your brain and down your spine. It's horrible. Dh has taken a few days off work to look after me. And I have another gp appointment next week and im going to try and keep my positive cap on!

Forgot to say, mornings are absolutely awful. The anxiety is there before I even open my eyes. I lie in bed shaking feeling awful trying to control my breathing. This slowly gets better throughout the day and by evening I'm "relatively normal"

Oh god Gruffalo brain zaps sound very scarey. Your pattern sounds very similar to mine when my bad days descend (as they do with great frequency) and mornings are awful and I stay under the duvet until lunchtime, then force myself up and sometimes it gets better through the day, other times I have to wait till evening to feel "relatively normal" - very wierd isn't it. To be honest I don't think they know much about brain disorder and yet it's the most important organ in the body. Don't know how much research is done either.

Glad your DH is around and you have another GP appt. I too have uncontrollable bouts of crying but I always put this down to depression rather than anxiety, but I think you sometimes can't tell the difference between these twin evils. I worry that I might be heard by neighbours and sometimes try to stuff a towel in my mouth to muffle the sound. Mind I do usually feel a bit better about a bout of crying (headache and sore eyes after) but that is nothing compared to the horror of the days from hell.

Keep us posted. NNx

Morning were always absolutely desperately dire for me as well Sad

TheGruffalosbitch · 03/07/2012 13:24

I've heard it because of high cortisol levels in the morning so we can wake up grab our kids and run away from the mean lion that wants to eat us! Fuck those lions.

I had an interesting convo with an old uni lecturer of mine who is a psychiatrist ( can't really help me because he is abroad) I mentioned about going back to paroxetine. He explained that to do it I would either have to taper down to 0 then start 10 mg of paroxetine or come off fluoxetine cold turkey and reinstate paroxetine 4-6 weeks later! This is absolutely a no go for me. And scares the life out of me so im going to have to ride this wave out!

i think its really good that you are beginning to feel something like normal in the evenings. Just something to hang on to. The early morning probs will pass in time.

Interesting what your lecturer suggests re switching back to paroxetine and needing to have a gap. That will be because prozac has such a long half life and stays in system long time ... but have to say in my own experience I wasnt told that I needed to do that. Although you would need to check with your own dr.

TheGruffalosbitch · 03/07/2012 17:29

from the research I have done online there seems to be different opinions based on swapping from prozac to another ssri because of prozacs long half life. Some say if you can get down to about 5mg of prozac u can wait 3-4 days then swap to paroxetine. Whilst other resources are saying you should stop taking the prozac and wait 4-6 weeks!!! before restating the paroxetine to avoid serotonin syndrome.

This is why i dont think I could swap back, My nerves couldnt take it as well as having to wait for the paroxetine to take effect. I think I owe to myself to try and get stable on the prozac otherwise this last month would have been for nothing

I think Gruffalo you need to talk this over with your GP rather than researching online, and whilst your old friend may be right, I still think it is best to talk to the GP who you will be seeing on a regular basis and is responsible for your care.
