Citalopram and alcohol

I know it says to avoid alcohol on the packet, but does that mean completely as in none should pass my lips, or would one glass of wine be ok? I have no intention to drink lots - I don't anyway and it'll only make me feel low - but my friend's wedding is next week and I don't want to get questions about why I'm not joining in the toasts and am I pregnant... I'd quite like to join in the toasts anyway.

Does anyone know the answer to this? I don't know whether it'd just make me sleepy or whether it's actually dangerous.

I'm no expert so can't give you a science-based answer, but from my personal experience you'll be fine with the odd glass or two. (I myself probably drank far too much and still didn't suffer any side effects.)

I've had the odd drink or two with it and suffered no major ill effects.

You basically get drunk quicker. So should definitely drink less. It's a shame that you feel pressured in drinking anything at all while knowing that alcohol is a depressant. I love my adopted home country but I struggle with the attitude to alcohol here where you need to justify not drinking (I don't drink, simply because I don't like the taste and I can't do lack of control).

Personal rant over - one glass for a toast will do you no harm unless you're in your first week of taking the citalopram, then you may well get dizzy.

i had some pimms a few weeks ago. taking citalopram seemed to increase the effects of the alcohol and i was a bit dizzy and sleepy. everyone has different tolerance to alcohol so may be go cautiously if you take any... and see how you feel ?? have decided to stay off alcohol for now... :)
