Depression and irritation/anger

DP got diagnosed with depression. He gets irrationally irritable and angry with little things. Any advice on how to cope when he gets shouty? Do I point out he is being irrational? Do I just ignore it? I want to support him without being patronizing.

Remind yourself that he is still himself and responsible for his actions, so do not accept it when he treats you unreasonably. Stay calm and say 'I don't want to talk while you shout at me. We can sort this out later when you've calmed down.

Thank you madmouse. I will try being more calm and saying that. I just panic around angry ppl and its making it hard to deal with this.

Anyone had experience with depression that made them irritable? Did AD's help with it? I had depression but it never manifested that way.

Yes, I got very shouty with my kids when I was badly depressed. It feels horrible Sad

I am on ADs and things are ok now and I find I have a lot more patience.

Glad you are doing better mawbroon. That gives me some hope.

Not doing away with women who get angry with depression (like you Mawbroon), but it is a very common symptom of depression in men. In very generalised terms men and women express their depression differently.
