I was on citalopram 30mg for 5 years, swapped to Prozac for pregnancy and postpartum (40mg) and wanted to switch back as citalopram seems more effective for me.

Dr said to 'just switch' which I did a week ago but am so so so drowsy. Now I see the official advice is to stop Prozac, wait 7 days and phase in the citalopram.

Do I go back to Prozac for a month and then taper in the citalopram? Am honestly so drowsy I cannot think straight - and I have a small baby to consider.

So, stick it out and hope it improves or go back on Prozac?

Or go back to Dr....?

You need to see your doctor, today, as you are at risk (even if slight) of serotonin overdose which can make you very poorly. No need to panic, it would probably have happened already if it was going to, but if you are so drowsy you need to sit down with the doctor and make a plan of action.

Thanks - that's what I thought but inexplicably I started to feel much much better. I took a half dose of the citalopram today so that's probably it but who knows... I'll make an appointment.

That's it. Wish my doctor had taken the time to look or that I had checked!

My GP always looks in a little book when she swaps me over

madmouse · 09/06/2012 09:48

How are you now Ophelia? If you're not so drowsy anymore you'll be ok probably?

tribpot · 09/06/2012 09:51

Yes, hope you can get seen to make sure you're moving over safely, NHS Direct may be able to advise on at least what's the best option for the weekend.
