Yes!! See my what do I do thread further down. Anxiety coming back full force because of it. Nearly had panic attack again this morning. I don't want to go back there!!

bananacrepe · 30/05/2012 13:14

Yommy - is there any way your hours can be changed? Sorry that's happened Sad

janesnowdon1 · 30/05/2012 13:21

Can your boss not curtail your hours again? I think you need to see your GP and try and get a referral for some cbt- have you tried any medication such as beta blockers?

YommyMommy · 30/05/2012 13:21

Hi banana creep,

I just had a read through your other threat, it sounds like you are having a really rough time Sad

I like you do not want to go back down that path...it's just so hard as our minds are in control Angry

My boss wouldn't look at my hrs again so just trying to ride out the rough patch...

How are you feeling after it panic this morning? I am feeling constantly tired and like I go through my day just trying to hold it all together, if you know what I mean? X x

Well I've not had a recent diagnosis or anything so feel free to tell me to buzz off :)

Back when I was in my third year of Uni I left to help care for a close family member with a terminal illness. After she had died I felt at a total loss, everybody was working hard and graduating around me and I just didn't know what to do. I was looking for a job but it got to the point where I felt panicky leaving the house, I would have to work myself up for hours to go to the shop for milk, stopped going out with my friends and got incredibly lonely. Everything got better and Ive not felt like that for ages.

However, recently things have gone downhill lately (redundancy, money problems etc) and ie started to feel that panic again when my DP goes to work or I'm doing something on my own. And to be honest it's terrifying me. I'm a confident outgoing person who loves her own company and space so to feel this loneliness and anxiety is really scary :(
I've been trying to stick to routines eg, gym and job hunting and that seems to help.

YommyMommy · 30/05/2012 13:48

Hi diamonds,

Welcome Grin

I was the same few year ago went through a phase where I was terrified to leave the house...thankfully I didn't let this consume me. I just kept forcing myself to go places and eventually it did get easier. I'm fine if I am with others, but like you get a bit panicked when I'm on my own and out and about. Angry

It seems to come and go.

How did you get better first time round? I have has some talking therapy, read books on CBT and had some hypnosis, but would say I have done most of the hard work myself :) lol!

How come your boss can just up your hours? What does your contract say?

YommyMommy · 30/05/2012 13:59

I'm only on a year to year contract. My contract is renewed every April. I was basically told I could up my hrs or the job would b advertised Angry x x

I never went to the doctors or got any professional help. I think the fact that life got generally better (got a job, moved in with DP, finished Uni) went a long way towards making me feel better in myself.

But I used to set myself challenges every day, could be anything from talking to the man in the shop to calling British gas, and I slowly got more confident. I also used some breathing exercises that my friend taught me. This friend was also going through a similar series of events to me (eerily similar actually) so we supported each other. No one else would have been so impressed with "guess what! I did a big shop on my own today!"

I'm trying similar things this time so hopefully it will help. But I may have to face facts and go to the doctors.

YommyMommy · 30/05/2012 15:21

I love your comment no one would b so impressed with you achieving what might seem like small task to others Grin I have had that feeling many times and wanted to should it from the roof tops, but other might thing I'm a little crazy Wink

Sounds like you need to get some advice from your local law centre or CAB. A contract of employment renewed yearly because continuous in the eyes of the law. Your employer is bullying you.

YommyMommy · 31/05/2012 09:06

Happy to report that I am having a bit of a calmer day Smile

Thanks for your advise mad mouse, but I think going legal on their asses would just make it a really awkward place for me to work. I will speak to them if things get much worse n see if the would consider reducing my hrs again!

Hi can I join too :)

I've had GAD and Anxiety Attacks for about 2 years now, they tend to hit me at work when i'm making presentations or chairing/sitting in meetings which tends to be most of my day.

I'm on Propanlol and take it 'as and when' i need it (which is about 4 times a week), it helps with the physical symptoms and means I can do a presentation without hyperventilating and making myself look a compete tit but it doesn't do anything about the mental symptoms Confused

YommyMommy · 31/05/2012 13:14

Hi ahhhhtetley,

Welcome :) hopefully we will have more joining in soon :)

Your post made me laugh when you said "making a tit of myself" lol! I have always managed to keep the physically symptoms under control, had had a few very scary moments, but they usually pass very quickly...thank goodness. It's more the fear I find horrendous, constantly thinking what it...

Has anxiety been brought on by your job? Have you ever thought about taking anything for the mental aspect?

The first time I had a panic attack was when I stood up to make a presentation infront of a vendor, I started hyperventalating and couldn't talk - anyone would have thought I'd just run the 100yrds, I had to excuse myself and then come back - now I really did feel like a complete tit but thankfully my boss was v understanding (and he's left now) :)

I don't think it's my job that's brought it on, I think it's because I get anxious about anxiety attacks, and the more anxious I am, the more likely I am to have an attack. Because the first one happened at work, they now manifest themselves in work situations - although I do think that this 'fear or fear' is making me more and more anxious at work. Vicious circle. I know what you mean about the 'fear' being worse than the event, I'm often really calm whilst I'd doing what I've been dreading doing and the build up is almost the worst bit.

I've been to CBTs and one to one councilling but nothing has helped. I understand (I think) why it happens but it doesn't help.

I've just posted about the Charles Linden Method I've seen advertised and was thinking about giving it a go.

YommyMommy · 31/05/2012 13:41

I am the same... First panic attack I had was on a night out and the train ride home was a nightmare...I didn't have a clue what was going on so it was very scary. I have never been on a train since Blush. But I am usually really calm doing the thing I have been dreading...like you say the build up is the worst thing :/

It's just so damn frustrating at times Sad

I have heard about the Charles Lindam thing but never given it much thought. I've had CBT and one on one, but never done much for me either.
