I have been on Mirtrazapine for over 6 months and have never felt better. I had a severe depressive episode in October and as it was my first I am terrified of it ever returning again!. My CPN was excellent and after changing my meds to 30mg Mirtrazapine I was better within just over a week (November). The CPN suggested 5-6 months of AD after feeling better which is the stage I am now at. I went to the gp last week and she suggested 15mg for a month and then further tapering until I eventually stop altogether (over the period of a few months). Anyhow I am very afraid that the depression may still be there-yesterday I was panicky and a bit obsessive on certain thoughts and had a slightly 'thick' foggy feeling in my brain (nothing compared to when I was ill but there nonetheless). Today I felt not as happy or enthusiastic this morning but better now-has anyone any experience of this?. I would prefer to go back on my 30MG if I even thought for a second the depression would return!. Any advice greatly appreciated.

GPs are always so keen to tell you just to halve the dose. It's too fast. If she also advises you to start taking them any other day the picture is complete.

It definitely sounds like you are coming off them too quickly. Consider going back up until stable and then withdrawing much more slowly.

madmouse funny you should mention that she did say about going down to every other day eventually!. Have been feeling great today (apart from blip this morning) do you think it would be best to go back on 30mg again or persevere with 15mg are these blips an insight of what's ahead or me adjusting to new dose?. I really don't want to have another episode of depression it was truly the worst period of my life :( .

Don't panic and believe that this is the start of more dperession. It really is the coming off the meds that is a bit tricky. The meds change the chemistry in your body so that less serotonin is reabsorbed into the body and more is left floating around to lift your mood (note the scientific language Blush ).

In response to that the body makes a bit less serotonin. When you come off ADs your body needs to readjust. Do it too quickly and you end up low in serotonin.

If you feel ok today there's probably no harm in seeing how you feel tomorrow in case you're over the worst. But try not to panic if you feel worse and go gentle on yourself, you might get a bit stressier and narkier than normal, or lightheaded.
