Referral to CPN and Primary Mental Health team - what does that even mean?

Sorry to start multiple threads when i'm not really around here much.

I have been referred to the CPN and PMHT for severe depression and i'm suspecting my eating is worrying the Dr as he has mentioned it a number of times but i don't see a problem there.

What will happen? I know its different by area but i was made to feel i had to agree to it as he was talking about possibly admitting me for assessment.

I have had a mental health assessment, they ask a lot of questions, it is best to be honest about everything. The community mental health team (CMHT) can assess you and decide what is the best course of action for you and what support you need. That can be a CPN (community psychiatric nurse) or therapy or other forms of support.

They admit you as a last resort and IME it was something that was discussed very openly and honestly with me. Where I live the beds are gate kept by the crisis team and I was working with them for 3 weeks prior to admission. They can admit you if they think you are a danger to yourself or others but that is obviously very subjective.

They will want to work with you in the community, it is a far more authentic environment and they will be able to see the help they need to give you.

Everyone has been super nice to me and it is quite softly softly IMO but they are also very open and honest with you about things.

Sorry that was quite a clinical reply.

I hope you are ok, do you think you need more support? Why was your GP concerned about your eating?

As fluffy said, the Primary team are mainly about assessment and finding out what kind of support will be most helpful to you. In my experience you have an initial assessment with a triage nurse, then they will probably either book you in for regular counselling with a nurse or for CBT sessions with a psychologist, depending on which one they think will be most helpful (I don't know if they offer different services in other areas, but that's pretty much all my local one does). Hopefully with a combination of meds from GP and counselling/therapy with the primary care team, you will be on your way to being better! The options offered by the primary care team didn't really work for me, so I was referred on to the Recovery Team, which is sort of the next step up for people who need a little bit more help, but every change is discussed thoroughly first and all decisions are made together between you and the staff, so nothing is sprung on you out of the blue. Hope that helps a bit - they really ought to explain these things more clearly in the first place, there is such a confusing tangle of acronyms out there!

I didn't ask as the choice was either i agree to be referred or i meet the criteria to be admitted to hosp for assessment.

Fluffy - my weight and bmi mean i am medically anorexic but i don't think i am. There is a small part of me that knows the way i eat is wrong but i don't want to stop if that makes sense?

I've had my meds changed but don't start them til next week as i have to tail off the others. Been on lots of different ones in last few years.

Thank you for replys both of you x
