Works brilliantly for me, but caused profound appetite loss for the first couple of weeks. If you don't want to lose weight, you need to stock up on all your favourite foods and be prepared to eat little and often.

liveinazoo · 30/03/2012 20:21

thanks for the quick response.i will make anote to buy some nibbles when go shopping as not really needing weight loss-being anxious and depressed keeps me slimConfused

someone warned me of hot flushes/sweats....like i need menopausal symptoms before im even 40!Grin

I had it last year and it was great. Took a while to kick in, but once it did i felt so much better. No obvious weight gain or anything like that, other than not sleeping, but i wasn't before or after anyway.

I had it for about 7 moths and felt more confident then to carry on as normal instead of laying in bed and avoiding baby.

Hth

I've had night sweats, but I am not sure whether due to it or not. No daytime hot flushes at all.

fedupandtired · 30/03/2012 21:47

I had really bad wind whilst taking it. Worked wonders though so just had to put up with it.

It was fantastic for me - a real life saver from severe PND. I had no side effects other than that it did raise my blood pressure a bit (just to a certain level - not a continual climb, thank goodness, as I was on it for a couple of years.)

I heard lots of horror stories about withdrawal and had none of that, either, but I did wean off very slowly, over a 6 month period, so maybe that was why...

My husbands closest friend at the time was a very senior psychiatrist (not connected to my health authority or treatment in any way) and he was very pleased to hear that my GP switched me onto it (the GPs first cheaper choice of sertraline had brought be out in a rash) so I took that as a good recommendation. :)

Love it! I was on Seroxat (Paroxetine) and I was getting withdrawal symptoms between doses every 24 hours, it was horrible. So I had to switch drugs and was put on a gradual release venlafaxine and all of that has stopped and I seem to be coping pretty well. Had a bit of a breakdown during the switch but that is just down to seroxat being tough to get off of, being this well only two months later I put down to the venlafaxine being great stuff.

I am constantly running hot - to the point where it is uncomfortable for my boyfriend to sit and snuggle up to me on the sofa, and I can sleep with the window open in winter with no duvet.
It has had a quick and profound impact on my mood and I feel that once I start counselling the V will get me through it.

I've had a massive wobble this week on it, but have been reassured there is still room to increase my dose.

Hold on in there - side effects almost always reduce with time. What dose are you taking?

liveinazoo · 31/03/2012 18:26

im meant be taking 75mg-was given pack 37.5mg and told to take two.one morning one at night for a few days to ease it in .ive only had the one and am really afraid take another as i feel so unwell and there is no one else that can watch dcs
ive taken ADs before and never had a reaction this bad

Sorry to hear you feel so bad. I'm not a doctor, I can't give you any advice. But if what you have is side effects - and don't forget it might easily just be coincidence - then maybe if you take the evening tablet you will sleep through any bad effects from that. Worth a try?

Chocattack · 01/04/2012 01:26

liveinazoo I suffered similarly (but without the sweating). I divided my 37.5mg tablets in half and took one half of the tablet in the morning the other at night. It helped tremendously, but it does mean it takes longer getting up to your prescribed dose. For me I took it really slow - I remained at 37.5mg A DAY for about a week, and then spent another week or so taking 75mg a day (divided over two equal doses morning and night) before switching to 75mg a day as one dose in modified release form (before two further increases to where I'm now at). I basically waited until the side effects were bareable before moving up to the next dose. Fortunately for me with each dose increase the side effects reduced quicker. Hope things settle down for you soon.
