dh is very depressed and obcessed to a certain point with our dd.

He has a very low estem about his body -he gets the odd spots which in term he gets down about them.

He has problems sleeping and tends to sleep most of the day then be up all night.

He hate the living room curtains being open as he thinks people can look in and see him (which they can't)

We have a disabled daughter and he's very paranoid she going to fall out bed hurt herself - if she turns or moans in the night he jumps up and goes to her (which has cuased more problems than a little)

Since dd was diagonised 3 yrs ago he's got worse he hasn't been able to hold a job down and has now been out of work since last june which finacially is crippling us -i can't work as i'm dd's full time and to put her in nursery and go back to work would kill us in nursery fee's so a no win situation.

He's currently started on prozac two weeks ago.

What i want to know is has anyone else gone through this does it gets better.

bax sorry to hear this
dh went through this last year (he had a chemical imbalance in brain) and was very depressed
took him straight to docs and he was put on anti-depressants and olanzapine
at the time i thought our future was dashed as he just started new job etc
I started to build up his confidence and keep him virtually stress free.
the meds startede kicking in around 3 weeks later and he has been fine since.
Hope you and your dh can get things sorted

So sorry to hear about this. Could you work and dh be dd's carer? If not then is he on any kind of disability benefit to help you out financially?

Bax · 03/02/2006 15:38

He tends to be in bed all day and we have problems with him leaving the house (his choice) and as dd needs taking to nursery it's her that'd loose out.
No we don't get any diablity money - didn't think you could for depression

If he isn't getting any sick pay from work then he is entitled to benefits if he can't work through any kind of illness including depression. HTH - his gp should be able to tell him about this

is he on a list for counselling? the not wanting to go outside sounds like some sort of phobia (like agoraphobia or a social phobia) that really needs some sort of counselling on top of the antids to help sort out.

If he is so bad that he is unable to work, the GP really needs to refer him asap for some sort of counselling or psychiatric assessment.

Dh and I have both suffered with bouts of depression over the last 10 years - we tend to take it in turns so if I'm well dh tends to go downhill and when he begins to recover I collapse again. Both of us have found prozac and other meds DO work - but it takes at least three weeks to begin to feel any benefit - which is a long time for both the sufferer and the 'coping' partner.

Your situation sounds pretty desperate and I would hope you could get some help financially and some counselling too. Good luck!
