Cranial Osteopathy?

I took my 3 year old to Cranial Osteopathy this morning, she mentioned he had tension back of his neck, said it can be linked to aggression, depression.. hence his meltdown behaviour. anyway, its not that bad but went for other reasons, but made me think as I have always had major tension at the back of my neck and asked her about it and she said its very commonly linked to depression, bi-polar etc with her patients, I have suffered from depression on and off for years, am okay now, but have my moments and do feel tense, I wonder if Cranial Osteopathy could work for me? I also had (fantastic) a back and neck massage last week and the therapist commented how tense my neck was, and asked if I'd consider Cranial Osteopathy...

Has anyone tried this for depression? mental health? thanks

I don't think she has the causal links quite right there. If you are depressed or anxious you are likely to carry more muscle tension in sensitive areas like your neck due to not relaxing, subtle posture changes, tossing and turning in bed etc. That doesn't mean in turn that a stiff neck is caused by depression or anxiety, nor that cranial ostheopathy is a successful treatment for depression and anxiety.

It can help your body to be more balanced and relaxed and if it removes some tension it may aid sleep (you'd be surprised how much tension can be help in areas like the mandible joint) so as a complementary therapy I can totally see the benefits. But I would rely on it alone for treatment.

thanks madmouse yes makes total sense about carrying more muscle tension in sensitive areas, she said all her clients who suffer from depression have issues in the neck so go figure!!

have to admit I am a little sceptical about Cranial Osteopathy, but willing to keep an open mind, for me I prefer my massages!
