I had some wonderful replies when I last posted on here concerning my lovely dd who is currently taking fluoxtine. She was taking 2 tabs a day until after new year when they were decreased to one. She has had niggly illnesses for a while mainly tonsilitus which is also getting her down. Today she was very tearful and has said she feels it is the depression rather than the illness.

I have suggested Dr and she agrees and will ring tomorrow I have also suggested that maybe she needs different Ad as I wondered if she had become immune to them and they weren't having any effect.

So my question is - is it possible to become immune to Ad anyone else changed Ad and was it effective?

Hiya, I'm not sure about becoming immune, but I have had my meds changed a few times.
The brain has numerous chemicals so sometimes it's just that different ones are not doing their job properly or their is too much or too little of it, and different meds work on different things.
A review of meds is probably the best thing, if DD is seeing Gp only it might be an idea to be referred to a mental health doctor? Only because they have more specific knowledge, and they can ask the right questions so she is given the best thing.
It's great that you are so supportive, talking to my mom she has told me how she sometimes felt so sad that she couldn't do anything to help, but her just listening and being there was what I needed.
I am sure things will get better soon, xx

You cant become immune to AD. Why was the dose decreased? Sometimes people need a higher dose - maybe your DD could speak to the GP about her options re dose?

I think they can poop out and not be as effective as they were. The thing that really really jumps out to me though is that she suddenly dropped from 2 tablets to 1 tablet at new year, the depression is most likely a withdrawal from dropping a tablet so fast. If you reinstated the other tablet I'm willing to bet the depression would disappear.
Another point is you can get Prozac in liquid form and if you do want to reduce you can do it very slowly with liquid (which is what I'm currently doing).

Thank you all sorry not posted been unwell with tummy bug.

dd decreased tablets on advise of GP because she was so much better, GP suggested reducing just before Christmas but dd decided to wait until after new year because Christmas can be stressful at the best of times and she didn't want to feel worse then.

The reason I wondered if you can become immune is because the first time she took these tablets 2 years ago they worked brilliantly, but this time don't seem to have helped much.

Thank you georgejack I always listen and try to understand but you are right as a mum I feel helpless, it doesn't matter how old your children are they are still your babies and mums want to make the bad things go away.

Hello, I do hope she has a review of her meds soon so she can start feeling better. Please post if you get time and let us know how she is doing. x

Hi, thanks for all your messages, dd saw Dr today which she was really pleased about felt very positive that she would be sorted out.

Dr has advised doubling tablets as when she was on double before she was ok and probably reduced them to soon, allthough that was on Drs advice.

Dr told her that depression is often worse at this time of year, majority of people who are not suffering depression feel low now, so going to leave her on this med until spring review then.

I have to say dd seemed much brighter and positive when she came home.
