Coming off ADs - unsupervised!

DH has been on prozac, without any problems, for a good 9 months.
He feels he wants to come off them.

I have advised - repeatedly that he sees his GP. He has not made an appointment and is unlikely to get one this year.
He has started to stop taking them, I suggested alternate days for a while.

Apart from the obvious "See your GP, you fool and do it properly" which I agree with, has anyone got any other advice?

suggest that if you notice hes starting to behave erratically he agrees to estart taking his meds?my dp agreed to that and trusted me to tell him if he was sliding.unfortunately he did have to restart.but as i told him if you were diabetic you wouldnt stop taking insulin and being shortcertain brain chemials isnt a weakness

I've just come off setraline unsupervised. Took a month and I did get giddyness and other withdrawal stuff.

I was on em for pnd, and lo is 20mo now to I felt it high time I gave it a try without.

Don't feel great tbh, so I might have some explaining to do when I go back to doc. Dh has worked out I am off them, so I probably will have to get some more.

If he's going to do it regardless, make sure he does it slowly...Half a dose daily for two weeks, then half a tablet every other day for two weeks. The real issues come from stopping cold turkey,

Do it slowly. Very slowly.

As it's Prozac he shouldn't suffer any real nasty withdrawal effects as it has such a long half life. He/you just need to be aware of any return of any depressive symptoms.
