Counselling Team Letter to GP

I was recently referred to the local psychological therapy team by my GP (on my instigation). They asked if it's OK for them to send a follow up letter to my surgery, updating them on my diagnosis. I stupidly said 'yes'. Now I got the copy of the letter and I am not happy about what was written there. The info is correct but much more detailed than I expected it. I don't want it to be stored by my practice and I am beside myself that they will read it. I am writing an email to the PT to withdraw my consent for the future correspondence but can it be deleted from my file at the surgery now it's already been sent?

Or am I being completely wrong and oversensitive about it and it is advisable for my GP to hold such records? Oh, and who else in the practice has access to my medical records? Can the cows at the reception read it? They recently commented behind my back and in front of the waiting patients that I seem to be coming there a lot. Well, yes. I have to be there for my DC's appointments too since my DC is a baby Hmm and been ill constantly over last couple of months. I digress, but basically now I'm afraid they can read my notes and comment about them in front of the whole waiting room.

I'm sure they're not allowed to do that. Everything in your notes has to be confidential. My gp gets regularly updated by the other mental health team. It makes things easier if they all know what's going on.

You can always withdraw your consent, including retrospectively.

I think the way you feel is fair enough, there is no need for detail. General statements about why you were seen and the outcome are fair enough but details are unnecessary. The receptionists will have access if the systems in your GP is the same as the psychology services i've worked in but it is highly unlikely that it is the same system!

I thought I'd ask before I send anything. I guess it was the shock of seeing what was talked about written down for 3rd party to see.
