Hi,

Ive just had to re start taking citalopram after pnd returning to discover that i seem to have started having tinitus again. The only link I can think of is this drug. Its driving me crazy and my GP says its not a known side effect. Has anyone taken this drug and found the same? I have found some link on the internet saying it can be a side effect not sure whether to carry on with the drug or try to change to something else..........

I don't take Citalopram, but I do suffer with Tinnitus and have done for about 6 years so you have my sympathy.

Yes! I take sertroline and it gives me tinitus. It is definitely the drug in my case and it is listed as one of the side effects. Sorry if this is bad news but at least you know the cause.

Another mnetter posted this link which actually does help when tinnitus is bad.

@ohnonotthat hi! Long shot!!!! But did the ear ringing go?

ohnonotthat · 04/01/2022 09:16

Hi!
It's so funny you've picked up on this thread. The good news is yes it did go, completely. In fact I had totally forgotten that I'd had it up until you'd commented. Unfortunately I have had another bout of it. Which has lasted about a year so far. The ent have found that l have hearing loss so I'm waiting on hearing aids.
I'm guessing you've got it too. What I would say is although it's pretty awful when it's really bad it is manageable. At the beginning of last year I really felt that I couldn't cope with the noise but it is possible to habituate it. That is learn to ignore it so you no longer notice it. I have been practicing mindfulness and relaxation and that has worked. When it has been stubborn I can totally recommend the calm app. It has lots of scenescape noises and I found that the cricket sound completely drowns out the noise.
It really is horrible and I never ever thought I would feel any better whilst having the noise in my head but I do.
Best wishes x
