Any other Mums with ADD/ADHD?

Was just wondering if there are any other mumsnetters with ADD/ADHD. I got diagnosed a month ago and suddenly everything I have been struggling so hard with made sense!

I am waiting medication at the moment and am not working as I am on ESA for anxiety. I would love to know what a difference medication made to your daily life. I am hoping that it will help me with getting organised particularly with the house (even flylady does not help much!), my driving and for me to be able to stick to a degree course so I can finish it.

I have just finished reading Sari Soldens book on Women With ADD and I could see myself in every page from the descriptions of being at school to the effect on relationships.

Hope i'm not the only one! Grin

Belle, I ordered the Sari Solden book too, along with the Judith Kolberg book 'ADD Friendly Ways To Organise Your Life.'

A problem I've got is that I know how to organise things, I know what should be done, I know how to do my work, but I just can't stay focused long enough to accomplish anything.

It's actually getting me down now. My GP told me that I'm functioning well enough that I can't be considered for a psych referral, but the more I learn about ADD, the more I recognise myself.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself. Sad

Sari Solden book is great. I also have the Kolberg one! Unfortunatley I have about 20 books on how to organise your home, its putting the ideas in practice I find hard! BakeliteBelle, a good book is driven to distraction and also terry matlens book- survival tips for women with adhd.

YourCallIsImportant, don't give up trying at GP's. A lot of GP's don't know very much about adult ADHD especially in women and so they are quick to diagnose anxiety/depression etc. I printed a checklist and wrote down examples of how it negatively affected my life. I waited a year for my referral ( I could have gone private). If you want a chat pm me :)

Thanks. I've ordered the Sari Solden book and I'm really looking forward to getting it. Hope it doesn't just become one more in my huge pile of half-read books by my bed!!!

Sorry you are feeling down, Yourcall. GP's are naturally quite budget driven and you may need to be persistent. If you really feel your life has been adversely affected by this condition and something can be gained via diagnosis, you must push for assessment.

I am too worried to go to my GP as I don't think I have severe enough symptoms, and I don't want to be laughed out of the surgery. At this point, I feel for me it is better to start looking at what ADD is and trying to make sense of my childhood, then learning some coping strategies to deal with the problems I have now. I may think about diagnosis later
