Secret eating

hi,

I have PND for 4 years now and am about 4 stone overweight.

I decided that I would join weight watchers with a friend for support.

It went great for 6 weeks and I lost 2 stone, but now I have been ruining myself by secretly eating loads of junk shit without my family knowing.
I know its bad and I shouldn't do it but I can't stop!
I've even eaten two of DS's Easter eggs!
I'm a monster! I can't tell anyone in RL I'm too scared.
Please if anyone has any advice I could really do with it and thank you for reading

You are not a monster - you are a lovely normal person who is binge eating. It is likely that at this point in time you are binge eating because it is not a good time for you to diet.

2 stone is also far too much to lose in 6 weeks (you should have lost about a stone, maybe 14lb if you've done really well) so you have been too strict as well.

My suggestion is that you stop weight watchers for now, or if you really can't face that be more realistic in eating your whole points allowance including some chocolate or whatever you like - eat enough to feel satisfied and get plenty of gentle exercise. Weight is not your priority right now, your mental health and general wellbeing is.

I have had binge eating disorder from the age of 7 and am finally slowly beating it and the most important thing I had to learn is that it is better to eat some 'bad' foods openly and enjoy them rather than eat 6 times as much in secret later.

Also, before you despair about the weight gain this week, if you have eaten lots of sugar and salt you will be retaining water which will push your weight up temporarily. Lots of water, fruit and veg will help.

I cannot rest while there is chocolate or other junk food in the house, until I have necked it all down. So we do not have it in the house. The kids can do without - it's not essential that they have chocolate. Get rid of it, and then you will stand a chance.

I don't necessarily agree with Madmouse that you should allow yourself some points for chocolate. If you are like me, there is no point to chocolate unless you can eat yourself sick on it. A little bit of chocolate is worse than none at all. You know yourself best, and what will work for you.

The other thing is that you have NOT ruined your diet with one, or two, or several binges. If you fall off the horse, get right back on it again. You need to break your mindset of "Oh, I've gone and ruined it all for ever now. I'm a monster, so I might as well be a worse one." You were doing well, and can get back to that. It's not a diet, it's the basis for the way you've got to eat for the rest of your life, so you might as well incorporate your own idiosynchrasies into it now.

Finally, are you able to do any exercise? I've found that running really helped with my weight, with appetite suppression, and I know other posters have found it helps with depression.

Don't hate yourself. You can do it. It's just a bumpier road than you thought.

Thank you both for replying :)

I am going to keep up with the ww but I think having no junk is the way to go. I did lose it quickly, but only as I had so much to lose and I stopped binge eating.

I like having a routine and I think the holidays and unexpected things like Easter and picnics have thrown me off.

Thank you again xx
