DS has gone in for his grommets op.

DH has take him as I wont be able to hold it together. Hes just gone in the taxi and I can't stop crying and just want him to come home.

Am really scared. Wish it was 4pm or something and he was safely home :(

Oh poor you. He will be fine. How old is he?

DS had an undescended testicle brought down at 3. I was ok to go in and take him down to theatre but I came out in floods of tears!

He came through fine of course and sat up and ate a huge bowl of cocopops afterwards!

aww hun i know how your feeling my lo has had several ops since 6 months and it is so hard but your doing the right thing by staying at home your fears could be passed over to your son so at least when he comes home tonight your there with big hugs and lots of love.

I also had this op when i was little and it made a massive difference (my mum says lol)

TotorosOcarina · 02/04/2011 08:03

Thankyou.

DS is 6.

I was crying when he left and I know i won't be able to stop till hes home so I would ahve just been a wreck at the hospital and its not good for him, I would have made him anxious I think.

Just had 2 family members ring to see how I am and just blubbed down the phone at them Blush

My anxiety makes me not want him to go to school even sometimes so sending him off to hospital is really hard

DS2 had gromits fitted last September and it was scary but the thought of how much pain he'd been in with constant ear infections was enough to make it easier to deal with. Just concentrate on how much better his hearing will be and how much more comfortable he'll feel without that hideously painful build up of fluid around his ears all the time.

He will be fine and no doubt a lot happier once he's had the op. Can a friend come and sit with you today to keep you company?

TotorosOcarina · 02/04/2011 08:37

thanks country.

Just spoke to DH and they said hes already in his own room, with PJs on and anesatist (sp?) has been to speak to him and they will be returning soonto put 'magic cream' on his hand.

Does that mean he will be having it done soon? I hope so, I was worried he wouldn't even be going in for hours. The waiting is awful.

I know how you feel - ds (3) is having botox injections under GA on Friday and I'm coping by trying not to think about it. I will have to go down with ds to theatre as dh faints at needles. Am wondering if there is anything stronger than rescue remedy I can take Confused

TotorosOcarina · 02/04/2011 09:24

am freaking out a bit now :(

bloody mind is running away from me

Toto write down what you are thinking - get it out on here - it's not ridiculous honest - I bet you can't write anything that I haven't already thought!

(I usually tell someone my runaway thoughts - so their reaction can check me back to some perspective)

TotorosOcarina · 02/04/2011 09:55

I don't think I can.

Just something going wrong and the worst happening.

highly unlikely i know but i cant stop thinking it

Of course you can't stop thinking about it. DH and I were the same when DD had an accident and needed a GA. She was gone much longer than expected and we were in shock.

Are you home alone? Why not make his favourite cake or something? It will keep you busy as well as being a lovely thing to do to sit down and eat it together when he is home.

My DD is going to hospital tomorrow and I am in denial to be honest.

We're all doing a bit of cyber hand holding here Smile

Grommet insertion is a very very safe procedure and really quick, it will be over within a flash, have seen it done hundreds of times, all very safely.

The 'magic cream' needs to be on for a while to work, but to be honest how soon he gets his ears done will really be down to where he is on the operating list.

Keep posting.

madmouse · 02/04/2011 10:06

Things can always go wrong - in everything. But grommets, like ds's botox, are a very safe procedure.

But if last time you checked they hadn't put magic cream on yet it could be a while before it's done (they tend to go youngest first so it depends whether there are many young children) - so get yourself a distraction, preferable one that talks back.

Things always take longer than you think - best to keep that in mind.

Thnaks

he is in theatre now, he went to sleep very quickly and DH said he was very brave and only had a little wibble when the sleepy meds went in as they felt funny.

Am watching 'Beauty and the Beast' with the other kids to try and distract myself
