Has anyone overcome this phobia and how did you manage it? I am a bit desperate as its starting to rub off on my daughter despite my best efforts to hide it from my children.

No, I am terrible, I have heard Cognative behavior therapy is the best, but never had the cash to pay for it. DS2 is 8 and finds in hilarious I won't do lifts, but where we live there are hardly any.

It dominates life sometimes doesn't it? Have you been to your GP?

The last time we went on a plane, I got vallium from the docs, it was only to Italy, and I really wanted to go. They worked a treat, no heart stopping panic. I did however walk up and down the 7 flights of stairs at the hotel all the time!

That was 4 years ago, and this summer we are hoping to get to france and all I can think is eeeek the channel tunnel or plane!!! Can't we go to Cornwall?

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I feel like a maniac with lifts and planes. I am having some CBT with a psychologist via the doctor (it took about 5 months for the appointment to come through) and finding it helps a little but now I really have to start practicing what she has been telling me on my own. I am to start exposing myself to easier challenges and feel the discomfort of the panic but tell myself 'I am safe, I am not at risk' and apparently I will start to desensitise the more I do it. Fingers crossed. I am hoping someone who has had hypnotherapy and NLP will come along and say it's amazing.
