Help! Had my first dose last night, upset tummy within an hour and nausea all night. Feel spacey, weird and a bit sick this morning. How am I going to get through the next 2 weeks if this is how its going to be? Can't take to my bed as I have to dcs to sort out, have to work, and have visit to a friend planned I can't get out of. Knew I should have waited til the weekend Sad

When I started, the spacey feeling only lasted a couple of days.
Has GP told you a specific time to take it at, I take mine in morning with breakfast.
Maybe light-headed/nausea could be due to meds working on empty stomach?

Stick with it, and talk to your GP

Hi, I only started citalopram on Friday last week so i'm not the voice of experience but the intial feelings are starting to go now. I felt like you, very spaced out the first day or two and very nauseous and a bit shaky too, but I took todays pill over an hour ago and I don't feel sick yet so there's progress!

odetothewestwing · 03/03/2011 19:40

pheebe, hope you feel better soon. I have just popped my first pill and am feeling nervous. Hopefully it is a case of 'no pain, no gain'. Make sure you are eating and drinking enough - I'm sure I read this on a different citalopram thread.

Macdog · 04/03/2011 12:03

How are you all feeling today?

odetothewestwing · 04/03/2011 12:41

Well at this end, I didn't sleep a wink - literally got about an hour and so feeling pretty dire. However, not sleeping is nothing new or strange to me so unsure whether or not this is related to the citalopram Maybe I will pop the pill a bit earlier today (took it at about 7.30pm last night) to see if that makes a difference. Hope the rest of you are feeling a bit better.

I hope you feel better soon. The effects fade eventually, don't worry. :)

I take it in the morning as although having the side effects in the day was unpleasant, at least I could get some sleep. Maybe worth thinking about?

Pheebe · 05/03/2011 08:20

Hi everyone. Four days in and I feel Ok actually. I think the upset tum was in fact a bug (and possibly some anxiety too). I've felt a bit sick but nothing unbearable so far. I've been takng it with my evening meal and not had any problems sleeping, quite the opposite, actually waking up feeling refreshed for a change.

I've cleared my desk and arranged next week off so that's a pressure off. DH is being fab as usual although I know he's struggling to understand and part of him thinks its somehow his fault Sad.

ode how are you feeling today?

morning time -i found best to take it-for the sleep reason -plus it sort of gives u a boost-so better of in morning when u eat your breakfast.

odetothewestwing · 06/03/2011 18:53

Hmmm, am ok - have started taking it mid-morning. It makes me feel v woozy for quite a while, though. Hopefully that will pass. Will try it with brekkie tomorrow, good idea. Matters not helped by the fact that ds fell and broke his collarbone yesterday and so we spent 5 hours at A&E until midnight last night. Not a great help for the anxiety. Anyway - am going to stick with the pills and fingers crossed for some improvement in a week's time ...

I took Citalopram on and off for a few years. I think it does make you feel a bit spaced out for a while until your body gets used to it. I found I had to take it in the evening just before bed which worked quite well. When I first took it I tried a morning dose and that made me feel sleepy and drowsy - no good at all with two young kids.
Hope everyone on here taking it starts to feel a bit more positive soon :)

Neenook · 09/03/2011 14:17

Pheebe how are you getting on?

Pheebe · 09/03/2011 16:32

Hi Neenook, I'm getting on OK actually. Tired in the evenings (I take mine at tea time) and have been tired and a bit spacey all day today. Not sure if thats the tablets or just a low day. Having this week off is really helping. I've just pottered about in the garden and slowed right down. I think my biggest problem is stress - from work, two small boys, keeping the house running, making sure the bills are paid. I don't seem to get time to draw breath. That's going to change.

I have felt so much better the last couple of weeks that I wonder whether I really do need the citalopram. DH thinks that its because I've opened up about how I'm feeling, have taken time off work and I'm doing something positive instead of justr trying to plough on. I don't know. I'm going to keep taking them for the time being. I see the GP again in 3 weeks and will talk it through then.

How are you feeling neenook?

Pretty low at the moment, upset and teary a lot especially in the evening. Have times when I feel ok-ish and wonder whether I really need it though! Think I've been depressed for years though really...

Am back to GP in two weeks and am really hopeful this will make a difference. It's good to know there are other people going through the same thing Smile
