Roaccutane - what is depression?

I have a history of 'mild' depression. My GP seemed to think it was worse than it was, and prescribed horrendous drugs and counselling. I genuinely don't think any of this was necessary and was actually counter-productive.

Two and a half months ago I started taking Roaccutane for acne. A common side effect is depression. I have been feeling down and have started to get too upset about things. I've noticed that people are starting to think I'm losing perspective on things a bit.

So, I'm asking, how do you know when depression is depression and not just a sad mood?

Also, has anyone experienced depression when taking Roaccutane, please?

I'm not getting good quality sleep at the moment, so that probably doesn't help!

Thanks.

I have no personal experience of it just professional as I am a nurse. I would suggest you contact your GP or the specialist who prescribed it for you.
I know someone who took it and got depressed and had to come off of it. She did take it again at a lower dose and was OK however.
I wouldn't ignore how you are feeling, as you said it may be lack of sleep but better to mention it to someone than not. Hope you feel better soon.
