Depressed/ knackered update and therapies question

I just thought I'd come back with a quick update.

I went to see my GP today, she was great, we did a depression questionnaire which I answered quite frankly and suggested I was quite severly depressed, which I think surprised both me and her a bit, but I can see when looking at the symptoms like irratability and failure to concentrate. I have been prescribed prozac and offered counselling. I've not been signed off at the moment, but if I feel I need to be I can call her. I think that's ok as work is improving, but in some ways I wish she had made the decision, I'm sick of making decisions all the time.

I've also had some good honest chats with my boss, DH and best friend which I feel better for. So overall I think things are moving positively. I have discussed a few things with my boss to make my life easier, so we'll see how that goes.

I've one question about therapy if anyone can help. I've got two choices, I can see a chartered psychologist face to face through my private healthcare. Or I can use "talking therapies" which is likely to be on-line CBT throught the NHS, I've no idea about the differences or benefits and drawbacks of either. Again, someone just make the decision for me. Any advice or recommendations.

I would suggest face-to-face every time - it's much better to get an instant reaction from a human being, and you can have a proper conversation. A computer can't guage your reactions or feelings from your facial expressions and body language, but a person can.

I would go for face to face everytime but I think there is a more important question to ask:

Do you think there is something 'behind' your depression, your childhood, traumatic event etc? If so definitely psychologist.

If you would like to work on techniques to cope in the here and now and manage your depression CBT may be of more help.

Sorry, one more question, any tips on finding a counsellor?

The one I've seen before can't see me for 3 weeks and then she can't guarantee a time every week as she is busy. Her colleagues are apparently also all full. So I can either wait to see her, go for the NHS treatment which is likely to be online after the inital appt, or find another counsellor, but when I start to look online I have no idea who to trust and who I would get on with.
