Or do you need to see the Dr. I know to do it gradually.

The first time I saw the doctor the second time I did it myself.

Depends on how high your dose is and how long you've been taking it I would say.

However I think most would recomend a chat with the dr

no harm in discussing it with your GP is there - decide together that indeed you are ready to stop and make a plan.

Agree with what connor and madmouse said - I did it myself but I was only on a low dose for about 9 months or so and I did it v.gradually without any probs.

the trick with citalopram is to stay on it for about 3/4 months after you feel ok again and do it about twice as slowly as you think slowly means.

madmouse · 15/01/2011 15:17

that's 3 or 4 months not three quarters, duh Blush

I'd say see your gp and discuss gradual withdrawal. I cane off cutalopram on to Prozac than off Prozac as u found it easier to come off. I've always found it easier to di gradually in the past.

I did. It was hell.

hairyfairylights · 17/01/2011 18:06

It really doesn't need to be hell if you do the gradual thing, honestly, it's not so bad very, very gradually!

I went from 7 days per week 20mg to 6 days per week 20mg and 1 day per week 10, then down a further day etc etc and then down to alternate days of 10mg, then every three, then every four, and it was ok.
