I've been having treatment for PND for about a year and a half, I'm currently on 40mg of Citalopram. I'm doing much much better now, definitely a huge change. I recently applied for a job in NHS which I've been offered a conditional for, I'm so happy I got it, but now really worried that I wont be offered the final offer of employment because I haven't fully passed the Health check since I'm on the AD, and they said I needed to come in for a chat, they didnt sound too worried about it but now I'm really concerned that I may have ruined the chance of such a fab job. Does anyone have any experience of what happens in a situation like this?

Hi,
Just be really honest with them and explain that you've sought and are getting help. Plus make it clear that it will not interfere with your ability to do a job.

I've had this issue every time i've applied for a job within the NHS and i'm a psychologist!!! My experience had been generally that they just want to check that you CAN work and i have even in some instances been offered extra help/support!!!!

The fact that you've sought help and are doing lots better will be what they are looking for.

If the NHS discriminated against people with depression they'd be lacking lots of staff!!!

Asking you to come in is routine, i expect it now!!!

Hope that helps put your mind at rest,
xx

Dont worry, not belittling your situation but it really is all in a days work standard practice just to clarify how things are,and see if you have any areas you may need assistance or support with. I used to manage an NHS Occ Health service and I promise we have many thousands of staff needing treatment or support or both. Promise we are there to enable people into work not to find ways to stop them.

Hi there, as a former Occ health advisor (and one who has also suffered with PND) I concur with everything Stressed has said. Please don't worry!

Hi Jic

I'm on citalopram and work in mental health. It's really brave of you to get the support you need and to go for a job that clearly excites you. I don't think you'll have any problems with occupational health. As long as you're able to do the job, don't have an excessive (unexplained) sickness record then I would say you'll be just fine. Good luck.
