Head injury after car accident: life after injury

Hello all. I'm hoping that someone may be able to put forward some suggestions for me.
My sister was in a serious car accident in the summer, other injuries besides, she has been left with the after effects of severe concussion. She lost consciousness for about 30 mins or so.
Her main symptoms are dizziness, nausea, vertigo, foggy-mind, exhaustion and inability to focus or concentrate on anything in particular for long periods of time. We are all grateful she is alive and know that she is lucky to be with us despite her residual symptoms that the specialist indicates may never fade.

She is a teacher and has been told she would only be able to teach 1 hour a week which is just impossible for her school to accommodate. We are looking at other options for her future and wondered if:

  1. Are there any programmes that can help reprogramme brains suffering the effects of concussion that are not readily publicised via the standard NHS routes.
  1. Any other suggestions at all to get a person who is willing to work, back to work and retain her pride (probably the wrong word - dignity, self-worth etc).

appreciate this may be a long shot, but we are casting the net wide as she is determined to get well. So please, any suggestions.

Thank you.

Would the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) be of any use?

Which part of the country is she in? Is there a team that her Doctor can refer her to?
