Decided to take the plunge after Monday's nightmare and go to GP. She agreed and thought I should start on medication for my ongoing PTSD.

Have been prescribed 50mg once daily of Sertraline.

Any experiences?

I tried it for a few days but the side effects were too much to bear. Terrible insomnia and no appitite whatsoever.

I'm now on escitalopram with no side effects at all.

it's also known as Lustral (brand name) if anyone is on that??

oprahfan · 16/12/2010 21:41

Hellooooo!

Yes, on sertraline, this is my third time on them. I find that is works very well indeed. The only side effects that were bad for the first 2 weeks were a gagging/yawning reflex, it lessened with time. Believe me, it's worth going thru yukky side effects, they don't last for long.

I find I am on a very even-keel so to speak, when I am on this, and cuts down on my anxiety over past events. Dare I say it, I also feel like a normal human being again with sertraline.

Coming off no problems at all. Cut down to half a tab, then quarter per day, etc. Hope it works for you!

I have been on it for about two months for major anxiety/PND and I think they are marvellous. I was very worried to try them on but they worked wonders, I am now a lot let anxious and like a more even version of myself without the mood swings and a lot more patient with my DCs which is lovely.

In terms of side effects, I felt a bit nauseous and lightheaded for a few days and the room felt like it spinned a little. It did go after a few days. I started feeling a lot better after just a week and it is still improving. I am so glad I took the plunge

Thanks for the replies, I did find that i was clenching my jaw this morning when I woke, and still am to some xtent but I can live with that for a few weeks if thats all the side effects I get.

Can I ask if it had any effect on your sex drive. As someone with a pretty low sex drive at the best of times, Im not sure dh would cope with it being much lower Wink

Hi Mosschops

Er...yes, it did affect my sex-drive a bit, which is a bugger for me! (DH couldn't care less in that dept....his drive ain't anything to write home about). This time around I don't seem to have taken such a dive with it.

Have also stopped comfort-eating so much as well, which is a boost.
