Xmas period and depression

Does anyone else struggle more at this time of year? I find it's the same every year for me. Longer cold nights, grey days, and the enforced jollity. Just makes me really irritable, I can just about deal with the depression, without all the raving about how great Xmas is. Especially when you are more likely to be told to cheer up than at any other time of year.

Then you get New Years, which is even worse as it is an "opportunity" to look back on the past year, and this bizarre assumption that a new year will make a significant difference. And again, if you can't share this good mood then you are a failure and ruining the party.

I can't wait for it to be over and done with.

I like Christmas when it's here but find the build up difficult.

I've never really 'got' New year at all. It's just January which I find the most depressing month ever as the days are still dark and there is nothing to look forward to.

I love Christmas, I am a complete Christmas bunny, but my anxiety goes through the roof every year but somehow that helps me keep going. I love the build up, and get all into it, then usually feel awful on Christmas day, just around after dinner, when the 'it's all over' feelings kick in.

Double wammy: it's my birthday on Christmas Day.

I hate New Year's Eve! January is horrible!

custardo I struggle from the 1st Nov, through to mid April. With the depression at it's very worst over Dec-Jan.

orange The build up is horrible to deal with, while everyone else is so insistent on working it up into a frenzy, I'm wishing it could all be less of a big deal.
