Hi I have a 6 year old and an 8 month old. I have been feeling down really since my 8 month old was born. I have had other probs in the last couple of years i.e failed IVF, ovary removed and now my husbands son from his previous marriage has made an appearance after 10 years.
Anyway is anyone else on Citalopram and has it helped
Thanks

Hi Sidey

So sorry for your upset.

I've been on Citalopram for about 6 months now and it has helped massively. I would highly recommend this to anyone especially if you have PND. Honestly give a few weeks and you will feel like a different person.

Also dont beat yourself up its hard having kids especially the age that yours are. I have two myself but they are 10 and 6 now so getting easier by the day.

You probably could do with some well earned rest as well. Is there anyone that could maybe give you a break for a few hours.

HugsXXXX

I've taken it on and off for several years and found it a huge help, especially when I had PND and was dealing with the stress of returning to work after mat leave. Only draw back that I found was that it started to make me very sleepy and I would drop off at inopportune moments (in meetings etc) which was a little embarrassing!
I second what laurasarah says - don't beat yourself up. Life is sometimes just too much to cope with and you have been brave to admit that to yourself and get something that should help. Hope you are feeling much better soon. x

I took it for PND and general depression and it was fantastic. Am off it now but in a lot of ways I wish I was back on it. You need to give it a couple of weeks but it does help.

I was terribly ashamed about having to ask for help and (I've told this story before!)asked on here what I should do. I was advised to print out my thread and take it in for the gp to read in case I couldn't get the words out. That's exactly what I did. Makes me Blush now but I just couldn't ask for help, I felt pathetic, which looking back now seems ridiculous. Any other part of the body and you'd be down the doctors like a shot! You've done the hard bit. It will help, honestly. :)

I am back on Citalopram as from last Monday after a year of drinking too much to mask the depression and ending with a meltdown on here. I'd forgotten how awful they make you feel at first but I know from experience it'll get better. It does help, give it time and be kind to yourself. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your messages. I somehow feel a failure, I am normally a strong person that deals with most things, so I am shocked that I have gotten to this stage. It all prob started when I had my 8 month old and prob should have got help then. The GP has also sent me for counselling and strangely I am looking forward to talking to someone about things I always bottle up. But there is a 3 month wait for this apparently.

I have also got to go for another scan in a couple of weeks to see if my other ovary is packing up. I wouldn't mind but I am only 28! LOL.

Thank you for your support it means a lot that there are other normal people out there having probs xx Lets keep in touch

Hi all
I took my first tablet this morning, but within in a hour I was asleep. The doc told me to take them in a morning but can I take them at night instead?

I'm 2 weeks into taking them, first week side effects were quite bad, I took them at night so I was asleep during most of them but still woke up feeling like I had been hit by a bus.

I am taking them for anxiety and PND.

sidey · 25/11/2010 12:37

Hi sweetkitty, what side effects did u have? Really wished I hadn't took that one this morning as I feel like a zombie now x

Hi
I've been on and off it for 3-4 yrs now. I'm currently on it at my highest dose of 40mgs at the moment but hoping to come down to 20mgs again in Jan and then off it altogether by August as i want to TTC then. But i find it helps me loads but as mentioned previously...it does take a few weeks to kick in...i've never had problems with it except nausea in the first few weeks if i've been off it for a while...hope you feel better soon...

sweetkitty · 26/11/2010 17:57

Yes nausea especially first thing in the morning like morning sickness (no chance of it being actual morning sickness).

Am hoping they really kick in soon that's been just over 2 weeks.

hi, i've been taking them for a while now. one thing i'd like to point out is if you miss one then you do get quite strange withdrawels. It feels like my blood pressure is really high when I miss one, my head really spins. best wishes

you can tale them night or morning
your baody will need to get used to them so dont worry abouthow you feel right now as in a couple of weeks it will be totally different

I've been on them, I found them a great help

they were the difference between getting out of bed and not

and once out of bed tryjng to improve shit

hope you feel better soon

I also have quite a bit of experienbce with stepson suddenly appearing

we had neils oldest son from 15 years to 20 because his mum and gran threw him out and we were left Hmm

if you want to chat...

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 26/11/2010 18:14

I'm on 60mg of paroxetine at the mo (similar( and I definitely feel nauseous if I dont eat with them or at least shortly after

so no skipping breakfast

seriously the side effects will settle down and you will feel the benefits once they are in your system properly

can take two to three weeks

stick with it, give it a good chance
