Have needed them for a looong time though if I am honest.

Saw gp and filled in depression quesiotnaire, and scored as moderatly depressed. She has prescribed 10mg of something beginning with C, and I have to go back in 2 weeks to see if it needs upping.

I feel a bit panicked at the moment. Not sure what I am supposed to do next. I asked her about work and she said I could self certify 7 days if I wanted to but I can't, I've only been there for 5 minutes.

Is it Citalopram? I've been on that for nearly three years. If it is, be prepared some odd side effects, but it's worth it when you start to see clearly again. Stick with it.

Should be a happy face not a sad one! Well done for going to the doctor's. Things can only feel better from now on (though it may take a couple of weeks).

TheOriginalNutcracker · 04/11/2010 16:37

Yes that's it. What side effects did you have ?

Well done :)
Hopefully you will feel the benefit of them soon.

I had a few days of mild side effects with Citalopram - felt like i was chewing cotton wool an the first day or so i was ever so slightly dizzy. Nausea was a bit tricky but it was better if i took it at night. Good luck :)

TheOriginalNutcracker · 04/11/2010 16:40

Yes my mum said to take it at night.

Hope the side effects aren't too bad, else it kind of defeats the point a bit if I feel worse.

Thank's zam, glad to hear that they helped you Smile

I can't wait to feel better tbh. I feel like I have been miserable forever.

I felt a bit drunk for the first three weeks (which I enjoyed, if I am honest!!) and s bit sick at times. For a long time I ground my teeth but that's stopped now.
I did get a few very mild panic attacks - but it was all worth it to feel better after a while.
It can take a few weeks to feel a positive effect, and you might find you need a stronger dose, but they helped me so much.

headinhands · 04/11/2010 17:44

Hi there, well done for getting the help you need and deserve. Have only good things to say about Citalopram, coming on and off bar a few minor side effects. Like most of us you may fully realise how much you've been battling your feelings once the meds clear the black in your mind.

Thank's

Well I took it last night. So far the only side effects seem to be that I feel a bit dizzy and not quite with it iykwim. Oh and my jaw goes a bit funny when I yawn lol.

Still haven't decided what to do about work next week though which is stressing me out alot.

Sorry you've felt so down but good that you have decided to face it. You don't need to rush into a decision about work, allow yourself the weekend "off". If you feel capable of at least going into work then you may feel better for going through your normal routines as if you stay off and fret the whole idea of going back to work may become more of a challenge. Obviously if you suffer side effects then you simply can't though. Are you on a probationary period and what does the contract say for sick pay?

TheOriginalNutcracker · 05/11/2010 16:03

I'd get paid if I was off, but the more I think about it the more I feel I should go because if I don't it will just be harder to go back.

I need to stop only seeing the negatives to this job and start focusing on the positives, but it's hard to do that atm.
I did some xmas shopping online while I was off today, and being able to do that because of the extra money was brilliant.
