Just dropped off a family friend who came to stay last night after a night out with dh.

We have been friends with this lad for about 20 years.
In his yonger years he was a model, beautiful beyond words, had hoards of women after him where ever he went.
Was a drummer in a rock band, a very very intellegent and bright lad.
When he walked into a room, it litterally lit up.

now he is dependant on alcohol, he is bloated and just no longer even looks like the lad we knew.
He is very docile and has no "spark".

If i were to show you a picture of him then, and showed you him now, you would disagree that it is the same person.

It makes me Sad

he has been txting for a while as he and DH were very good friends when they were younger. So dh agreed, but feels very uncomfortable about supporting his addiction.

It is heartbreaking, and in my experience, futile to try and help them. I've no experience of being a friend of an alcoholic though. The alcoholic in my life is my mother, so more complicated to know where the boundaries are, and to walk away from that person when their behaviour becomes intolerable.

cant even imagine what it must have been like to have your mum be like this.

We just feel an overwhelming sense of guilt that we have at time avoided him.
DH spent a fortune last night as this lad has no money.

Dh had 3 pints, the lad was jsut at the bar ordering double after double on dh's money. He ran out in the end. 3 pints of lager cost him £60.Sad
