Hi
Has anyone got experience of this particular therapy? Would you mind telling me what happens and how effective you found it?

My reason for asking is that I'm a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist and I've heard bits and pieces about this (all good feedback) and I am considering training it it.

Some information would be very helpful to know if it is worth investing money in training or if people would possibly see it as a 'fad' which is little or no use.

Hope you don't mind me asking.

Much appreciated.

Yes, I am currently having it for PTSD arising from an abusive childhood and domestic abuse, following hospitalisation for a conversion disorder.

If you want to know how it works, I suggest you look online. However, I have found it exceptionally helpful although it can be extremely intense.

My personal opinion is that it should be done within a pschotherapeutic relationship and that a counselling setting would not be the right place. This is certainly not a slur on your professional qualitfications. I feel there are very big and significant differences between counselling and psychotherapy and they are the right treatment for different issues (I am a clincical psychologist by training).

Many people haven't heard about it and that will partly be because it is relatively new (90s.90s). However from what I understand there is an evidence base for it, even if not how it actually works. When it was first described to me, I thought it sounded like snake oil but am now a convert.

Thanks for your reply and I take your comments on board. I fully agree that it has to be used in the right context and I'll keep that in mind when looking into it.

It's good to hear you are finding it effective and I hope it helps you come to terms with the issues you mention.
