Citalopram and feeling worse

Hi ive been on citalopram now for 5 weeks for postnatal depression.
I started on 10mg and although felt odd for a few days soon noticed the lift in anxiety and the ability to get close to my hubby and laugh again returning. The doctor increased me to 20mg so that i would feel the full benefits from it, but now nearly 2 weeks on that i feel grumpy and withdrawn again.
I told the doctor on tuesday but she said she wants me to stick with it for a little longer to see if it improves.
Has anyone else experienced this type of reaction to antidpressants??

It takes at least 2 weeks to properly kick in and for some people up to 6. Since you've only been on the minimum theraputic dose for under a fortnight it may well not be at an effective level as yet. It's quite common for your mood to go up and down while it builds up in your system. Worth sticking with it for a little while longer. Really hope you feel better soon.

Hi I was prescribed this for post natal depression and the counseller I had said that your mood can be lifted in the first weeks just from admiting the problem and seeking help. I had an initial reduction of anxiety after 2 weeks but then had big ups and downs untill things evened out after about 8 weeks. It's not a magic cure all and will take a while. I really hope it helps.
