Has anyone used seratonin 5htp? I have heard a few friends singing it's praises and wondered what all the fuss is about. Does anyone know of it?

Seratonin uptake inhibitors are anti-depressants such as citalopram. It's a (relatively old) clinical term; they inhibit the uptake of serotonin by the neurons in your brain. This is how they work to help depression. HTH.

I think the OP is referring to 5-hydroxytryptophan, which is the chemical precursor to serotonin. It raises serotonin levels without any of the side effects of SSRIs.

I took it for about six months and found it pretty effective, even more so when taken with St John's Wort. However, I did go through a pretty low patch when I came off it - however, this might indicate that it really did work.

Tryptophan may be more difficult to get hold of but is less likely to give you the nausea that can be associated with HTP
You can find it online. Take it at bed time cos it can make you sleepy.
You could also try Tyrosine during the day for some get up and go!
