Having a panic attack...

Ladyem · 16/07/2010 09:06

I am at home alone with my 2 DCs (3yo and 10m) and I cannot get a hold of this panic attack. I feel sick, anxious, shaking, need to gag, feeling of dread.

Had this since I had my DS and Dr has not been sympathetic, but usually I can distract myself away from it. Today it is bad.

Lady Em,
I have to take DS2 to playgroup. Hope someone else pops in soon tot alk to you

Remember to breathe!! you are going to be fine, this will pass and your life will be back to how it was this morning.

piratecat · 16/07/2010 09:15

it's so windy here too, leaves all over the garden like october.

do you have a paper bag, i find it helps. breathe in and out of it, it will steady you.

It will pass, oh sympathatic drs, they are rare aren't they. Sometimes you have to go back and just say hey this is not going away.
If you cansit quietly with a paper bag and concentrate on the tv maybe? Jezza kyle is on in a min, thats always funny!

distracting your mind is key i find.

Ladyem · 16/07/2010 09:15

Thank you for taking the time to talk to me!

PiggyMad · 16/07/2010 09:17

I've got to do an hour and ha hafl drive on the motorway this morning - hate it when in the car and its so windy!

bintofbohemia · 16/07/2010 09:17

Lady Em, hello.

I get these a lot. It's fine. You'll be alright in a little while.

Do you have a paper bag?

Ladyem · 16/07/2010 09:18

Lol @ jezza Kyle!!

Have managed to force a banana down as sometimes my blood sugar makes me worse.

I can usually distract myself with the DCs, but I just can't shake it today.

bintofbohemia · 16/07/2010 09:20

blood sugar gets me every time.

piratecat · 16/07/2010 09:21

i find the more i concentrate on the feeling the more i worry and the longer it lasts.

well done with the banana! when i get an attack i canjust about swallow my own spit ( god tht sounded gross) !!!

Ladyem · 16/07/2010 09:21

Thanks everyone! It's starting to pass a little now. Just very shaky now. Urrgghh, hate these things.

Piggy - hope your drive is ok today. I used to have to drive up the motor way to work in the wind and rain and it was not fun especially on those dark mornings!!

Bintofbohemia - I feel a little suffocated if I do the bag thing . I was taught a thing of blowing out really hard, which seems to help when I am hyperventilating! (Looks wierd if I'm in Tesco, though!

Yes, good thinking re blood sugar.

I also do the thing where you look round the room you're in or out the window and concentrate really hard on objects. I repeat their names and describe things about them, going round the room. Then repeat.

Sometimes works!

Ladyem · 16/07/2010 09:22

Lol Piratecat!! I know, that's how I felt earlier today!
