Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

@pae @Flibbertyjibberty coming up to 18 hours here. Well done for persevering whilst in the office! I'm WFH today so biggest test will be making dinner for my DS later. We got this!

Peae · 17/02/2025 14:10

I’m holding strong, but only just. I’ve not got long to go, I’ll eat tonight. At least I’ve proven to myself I can get through the day at work.

I had a decent lunch as part of the TRE with lots of salad! So trying my best. Good luck with your fasts people

CranberryJanuary · 17/02/2025 14:44

Can I join?

I'm fasting today too.

I try and go for 36 hours once a week for maintenance, but what with holidays, Christmas, etc I've found the weight creeping up in the past few months...

I should really do 2 x 36 hour fasts a week, but somehow the I seem to self sabotage the second one!

Anyway, sending supportive vibes to anyone fasting today.

fastingaway · 17/02/2025 15:23

Wow we've really grown as a group - welcome to everybody and looks like a fair few of us fasting today. Keep strong everybody - you're doing a great job and you are going to feel so good once the fast is done. I'm at 21 hours right now - wfh and work is keeping me busy and distracted.

LittlePearl · 17/02/2025 16:02

I think there’s a fair few fasting today - @Peae @fastingaway @CranberryJanuary (welcome!) @Potterwatch89 @Flibbertyjibberty @Whyherewego ….. not sure about you @Sunflowers84 I hope I haven’t left anyone out - apologies if I have. We’re getting to be a bigger group which is great but more challenging to keep track of everyone!

Just wanted to say well done for getting this far and I hope you’re all able to get to your goal, especially those who are working or have to prepare food for others - respect!

It sounds like it will just be me tomorrow, I plan to fast after our meal with friends this evening.

Good luck everyone 🙂

Peae · 17/02/2025 16:13

I’ve finished - 21:30 fast. Not too bad, at least I made it through work. Oh my god I struggled today. Who’d have thought Sunday night takeaway would be poor preparation for a fast?

Well done, everyone. It's so encouraging to have such a big group of us here.

Annoyingly I had a low calorie hot chocolate yesterday evening, so I'm only at 19 hours. It was only a 40 calorie Options hot chocolate but has meant my fasting window started much later than planned. However, family plans mean that I can fast all day today (I wasn't sure yesterday), so aiming for at least 36 hours until tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone is doing ok. I hope to check-in again later.

fastingaway · 17/02/2025 16:40

Well done @Peae - hope you have some nice food lined up for today.

@Sunflowers84 so not the point but I'm dreaming of the taste of hot chocolate now.

Whyherewego · 17/02/2025 16:52

That's a good fast @Peae ! I'm not fasting per se just doing some TRE as much as poss as on hols with friends so it's a bit tricky

Sunflowers84 · 17/02/2025 20:35

Hope everyone who's still fasting is doing ok. I'm at the feeling cold stage (but not hungry) and hoping to get an early night.

blueshoes · 17/02/2025 20:47

I am cold and hungry and also hoping to get an early night. At 20 hours ...

Peae · 17/02/2025 20:51

Well done fasters. Maybe watch a short video on the benefits of autophagy? Often helps me stay on track.

Almost at 29 hours and going to bed. Had a period of feeling really cold and sleepy earlier. Onwards to tomorrow.

Peae · 18/02/2025 07:21

I haven’t felt cold but that’s two nights in a row I have been waking up hungry during the night🤔.

How are fasters feeling this morning?

I also only made it to 21 hours yesterday, turns out a maccies is also not a great set up for a fast. I had a healthy meal last night and going to attempt it again today. I'm determined not to give up this time! Well done to everyone who stuck with it yesterday!

fastingaway · 18/02/2025 09:10

Well Done @Potterwatch89 that's 21 hours banked.

@Peae was this after you had broken your fast? Are you eating enough when you break and nutritious food? Could this be because your body is still adjusting to no sugar and Diet Coke? Sorry don't know for sure I guess as there could be lots of factors.

I went to bed late last night but then woke up in the middle of the night and was wide awake for a couple of hours. Back to sleep but feel tired this morning.

Sunflowers84 · 18/02/2025 09:29

Well done, everyone.

I'm currently at just over 36 hours and still going at the moment.

Sorry to hear you didn't sleep well @fastingaway Am I remembering right, that you usually sleep well on a fasting day? Hope you can eat some nourishing food to give you energy for the day.

fastingaway · 18/02/2025 10:29

Well done @Sunflowers84. I do usually sleep well but have been feeling a little off for last couple of weeks - not sure if related to fasting or something else.

I had wanted to push through till later in the day today as not sure I will be able to get in another overnight fast later this week. But thinking of breaking the fast now with some avocado. I have to go out for an appointment and don't want to be stuck there not feeling great. I'm at 40 hours.

LittlePearl · 18/02/2025 10:45

Well done @fastingaway @Sunflowers84 @blueshoes and anyone else still clocking up the hours.
@Potterwatch89 21 hours is still a good stretch.

Hope you all enjoy your break-fast meals, whatever they are.

Had the most horrendous bout of indigestion last night, started while we were out at our friends and I had to leave early. Bad enough that my OH was googling heart attack symptoms in women. Fortunately it passed eventually but I must admit I’m glad I’m fasting today, it feels exactly the right thing to do after a digestive disturbance.

Flibbertyjibberty · 18/02/2025 13:17

I made it to 42 but I had an awful headache last night and this morning (same as last time) so I'm going to try a few 24 hour fasts over the next couple of weeks and see if building it up slowly helps. I want some of those energy and clear headedness people talk about, feeling ill isn't part of the deal! Good luck to anyone fasting today! Keeping busy certainly helps

CranberryJanuary · 18/02/2025 14:38

I made it to 36 hours and managed a swim this morning, so was feeling virtuous 😇

Then I tried on my some clothes to wear for a funeral tomorrow (elderly aunt) and my smug mood was shattered! I'm at least a dress size bigger now and will either have to go clothes shopping or wear a tight, uncomfortable outfit.

It's enough to drive me towards the chocolate tin...

Did you take any salt @Flibbertyjibberty ? I don't use electrolytes though I know some people swear by them but I usually eat a pinch of salt if I go beyond about 20 hours. If I don't, I tend to get a headache at some point.

Well done on getting to 42 👏

Try to resist @CranberryJanuary ! Well done on your 36 hour fast, it might not show on the scales or with your clothes but your body will have benefited from it.

Peae · 18/02/2025 15:07

Sorry to read about the difficult times so
e people are having Flowers

@fastingaway Could this be because your body is still adjusting to no sugar and Diet Coke?

Ahh. It’s probably that I’ve relapsed on both fronts this weekend ☹️.
