Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

Hi everyone from a rather windy resort! The food (buffets) is amazing, with plenty of healthy choices. I’ve also made some unhealthy choices and changed my fasting to 12 hours 😬.
Recovering from my illness and have managed 10k steps the last three days. Before tea tonight I’m going to try the gym.

Really impressed with the mid-week fasting reports! I’m so inspired to get back to some 30-hour fasts on my return.

Any fasting you do is good @Peae so 12 hrs is better than 4 or 6!
And well done on the 10k Steps!

How's your fast going @Fasterthan40?

Are you somewhere sunny @Peae?

I've just finished eating and aiming to fast until Tuesday morning. Who else is fasting tomorrow? @fastingaway I think you said you are? Anyone else?

Fasterthan40 · 02/02/2025 20:47

@Sunflowers84 fast going well, thank you . But my stomach was super noisy rumbling which I’ve not noticed before. We were all sat on the sofa watching gladiators on catch up and it was quite audible.
I am planning on breaking my fast after a weights session early tomorrow. Half an avocado and coffee. I also roasted beef and veggies in oven for family’s supper which will make for good leftovers tomorrow and hopefully avoid feeling the need to snack.
Wishing you well with your fast tomorrow.

fastingaway · 02/02/2025 20:56

@Sunflowers84 yes I'm in. But still eating due to a long day so likely to start fasting closer to 10pm.

@Fasterthan40 impressed with a Sunday fast - hope it's going well and sounds like you have some nice things lined up for tomorrow.

@Peae glad you are enjoying your holiday and feeling refreshed. 12 hours is pretty good for a holiday.

Fasterthan40 · 02/02/2025 21:19

@fastingaway tbh maybe like you, I haha had super busy day with no obvious time slots for eating around walking dog and being kids’ taxi until the evening. So anything I could have eaten would have likely not been great.
was up at 6.15am packing meals and snacks for husband and youngest to go to a comp far away. Then sorting car breakfast and tea for eldestz
but yes I wouldn’t have the willpower or desire to withstand a Sunday roast and wine etc.
i Hope that your busy Sunday was good busy and you have a chance to relax a bit before Monday and fasting hits.

Peae · 03/02/2025 07:21

@Sunflowers84 it will hopefully be sunny at the back end of the week. At the moment it's still shorts and t-shirt weather.

One thing I've noticed is how I am starving during the middle of the night. Not really sure why.

Are you eating less protein @Peae ? You may be more carby on hols... I know I am! And that will digest quicker

Peae · 03/02/2025 07:47

I am eating a fair bit of protein, there's a lot of tasty fish. But. I am definitely eating more potato and sweet stuff than I usually would. I wonder if it's the puddings that are the problem?

OP posts:
Whyherewego · 03/02/2025 08:13

I'd say if you don't normally eat puddings as you'd given up sugar then yes. That will cause a glucose spike and then you'll have a crash a bit later.
Glucose goddess recommends having fat and protein with your pudding so to reduce the spike. So have ice cream rather than sorbet. That sort of thing

Jollyjoy · 03/02/2025 09:01

Shorts and t shirt sounds lovely @Peae, enjoy and hope the tummy rumbles aren't disturbing sleep too badly. Hope it also means your metabolism is doing well!

I'm in for fasting today and determined to see it through since my last 2 have been abandoned for various reasons. I'm due on my period but not here yet so I'll see if I observe anything along with that.

fastingaway · 03/02/2025 12:33

Thanks @Fasterthan40 it was mostly good busy. I am feeling very hungry today though so hopefully can make it through. Hope you managed to break your fast and had a good meal.

@Peae you are doing phenomenally well given 12 hour fasting, good protein, steps and gym. I hope you manage through the hunger and enjoy your holiday. Can do fat fasting too - fill up as much as possible on fat foods ie avocado, fish, eggs, etc but holidays are to be enjoyed. Hope the sun comes out although t-shirt and shorts weather sounds nice.

@Sunflowers84 @Jollyjoy hope you are all doing well with the start of the fast. I'm going to check in a bit more today as think it's going to be a tough day.

Sunflowers84 · 03/02/2025 12:47

@fastingaway Good timing. I was just going to type a very similar message to what you have written! I'm just not really 'feeling' it today, but determined to keep going as Mondays & Thursdays are usually the only days that really work with me to fast.

@Fasterthan40 How many hours did you fast?

Jollyjoy · 03/02/2025 12:56

Sorry to you both on the not feeling it, definitely like that some times more than others. I'm ok for now but who knows what the day will bring! I forgot again to organise food in advance for kids tea which I wish I could get better at but organisation is not my natural forte.

I'll check in a bit too. We've got this Smile

LittlePearl · 03/02/2025 13:38

Fasting today, I hope to go beyond 36 hours as a corrective to a really terrible weekend of overeating (Christmas chocolate that I intended to eat small amounts of, now and then, but ended up scoffing in one sitting).

I had to battle the temptation to skip today's fast but I really want to establish a pattern that means it's not the end of the world to overeat, providing I pull back afterwards (feasting, followed by fasting) so I'm having to draw on every once of willpower today.

Good luck fellow fasters.

fastingaway · 03/02/2025 13:48

Sounds like we are all in a similar situation @LittlePearl and @Sunflowers84. Let's encourage each other - we got this, also @jollyjoy (sorry can't seem to tag you). For me it's diary commitments that can derail me so I really want to stay consistent with fasting even though the exact schedule I do may change on a weekly basis. Would like to do at least 36 hours overnight and will hope the hunger has calmed down enough to push through to lunchtime tomorrow.
Must stay distracted. Just reaching 16 hours now.

fastingaway · 03/02/2025 13:59

Looks like it did tag

Jollyjoy · 03/02/2025 16:48

I feel the same @LittlePearl about being better at just carrying on if have a bad day food wise and not then just eating badly for day, I'd definitely tend that way. Well done for not skipping, it's really hard when you feel like that.

I'm about 20, definitely would like to eat but doing ok. Going out in a couple hrs to an event so hope that'll be a good distraction. I notice how much better I feel after a bit of salt.

How are you all getting on, @LittlePearl , @fastingaway and @Sunflowers84 ?

Sunflowers84 · 03/02/2025 18:07

@fastingaway @Jollyjoy @LittlePearl How are you all doing?

I've made it to around 22 hours so far. I usually find the 5pm-7pm slot the most difficult. I'm actually feeling ok at the moment and found early afternoon more difficult today.

LittlePearl · 03/02/2025 18:45

Thanks for checking in @Sunflowers84 and @Jollyjoy Hope you're both doing ok, @fastingaway too.

I'm approaching 20 hours (didn't start until later in the evening yesterday) and finding it hard going but I don't intend to give up now! I've got quite a busy day tomorrow so should be able to get through until the afternoon, maybe later.

Keep going everyone!

fastingaway · 03/02/2025 19:28

Thanks for checking in- I'm at 21.5 hours and feeling very cold but not as hungry. Have managed to make it through the day and think I will be ok overnight. Well done so far @Jollyjoy @Sunflowers84 @LittlePearl - looking forward to tomorrow.

Jollyjoy · 03/02/2025 21:24

Well done fasters , especially through the bits that feel really hard. I've had a relatively smooth time for this one and feel pretty good. Am also very cold though and will need to take all the hot water bottles to bed!

I'm thinking I might go beyond my previous pb of 36hr if I'm feeling ok in the morning, will see if I can make it to lunch.

Potterwatch89 · 04/02/2025 07:47

Hi guys, I'm very late to the party but been fasting all of January with little success. Tried a 36 hour fast from Sunday to today, stepped on the scales and I've GAINED a pound!! Really feel like throwing in the towel now 😔 has anyone else experienced the same??

fastingaway · 04/02/2025 09:34

Welcome @Potterwatch89 that won't be a real gain and almost definitely will be water retention if you didn't hydrate enough through your fast. As an eating day focus on hydration and nutritious food today.

Realised I had miscalculated my fast time on the app so actually I'm only 30 mins away from the 36. Thought initially this was at lunchtime. Will push through for a few more hours as busy at work anyway. How did everybody's night go? I have found so far that on fasting nights I sleep very deeply - quite a revelation compared to my usual peri insomnia routine where I am awake several times through the night.
