If anyone would like to join for online support. I have over eaten throughout lockdown and I need something to change. I'm going to fast for 16 hours and eat for 8. Will calorie count a little too but will pick up healthier stuff next time I do a food shop in the next few days. I am literally feeling so big :(

Would love to join also. I have a stone to lose & I know if I stopped drinking wine & snacking in the evenings I could lose it easily but I need a plan to follow. I think I could manage 11-7 but I'll struggle not having tea. I usually have 4 cups of tea with slimline milk & half a tsp of sugar outside of those hours, would I have to give those up? TIA

walksonthebeach · 12/05/2020 12:33

Also I've heard people talking about Bovril in relation to this diet, can you have that during fasting time? it might take the edge off a bit.

MrsWhy · 12/05/2020 12:33

I did this last year 12-8 although did have a tea first thing. I quit all cereals and only had carbs once a day. Ended up losing 10kg in 4 months and getting pregnant. So it works if you stick to it and add some gentle exercise into the mix. Can't join in but can offer support and guidance if wanted.

Good luck, you can do it! 🤩

annabell22 · 12/05/2020 17:53

@Juanmorebeer the numbers have to add up to 24! e.g. fast for 16 hours and have an eight hour window in which you eat.

Lots of good advice about fasting from Dr Jason Fung, find him on Diet Dr website and YouTube.

Fairenuff · 12/05/2020 20:49

I drink loads of tea and coffee with milk and still lost 12lbs in 2 months. But I don't eat any high calories foods so it probably all evens out.

SecretRed · 12/05/2020 21:24

So glad I've seen this thread. I started yesterday (11th). I've got quite a bit of weight to lose and I've tried and failed all kinds of ways to get rid.
Trying this and easing slowly into it. I'm a binge eater so stopping food altogether at 8pm appeals to me.
I've not particularly watched what I've eaten in my 8 allowed hours but I'm going to cut out one bad thing a week. It'll be slow and steady this way but quick fixes not working so it's worth a go.

DragonflyInn · 12/05/2020 21:44

Ooh can I join you all please! I started this last week and would really appreciate some motivation to keep me going! 2 stone to lose. I think I lost 2lb in week 1.

I’m actually only doing 15:9 which I read somewhere was ok for women and is working better for me, but I’ll aim to up it to 16 as and when weight loss slows. I’m also reducing my carbs during eating - which tends to be my best way of losing weight and reduces my cravings for sugar (my massive downfall).

annabell22 · 13/05/2020 12:48

Over 18 hours fasting today. Every day DH offers to make me a hot chocolate and I say no. Today I was going to say yes. He has been so busy that he didn't make himself a coffee with the fancy machine today so I didn't get a hot chocolate either Sad Ah well, it improved the length of my fast!

longhaulstress · 13/05/2020 15:23

I managed to get to 15 hours until I had a coffee today so progress again and been good with no food for the 16 hours.
I also really need to weigh myself but I'm terrified of how much I've put on. I weighed myself about 3 weeks in and I'd put 5lbs on so god knows what that looks like now.

My targets for this week are also trying to do 1 online work out a day either Joe wicks or one of his shorter abs/legs ones and I'm also trying to hit my 10000 steps on my Fitbit by keeping moving and going for a 'power walk' to keep my heart rate up (the length of which depends on the weather and how much space I need from the kids that day!)

walksonthebeach · 13/05/2020 15:48

I started yesterday & managed the 16 hours with no food but I did have about 5 cups of tea during the fast. I don't think I could manage without the tea & I really don't want to so I'm hoping I will lose weight & get away with the tea drinking. I'd usually have a glass or 2 of wine & snacks to go with it in the evenings so I should lose some weight anyway just by cutting these out

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 14/05/2020 16:12

annabell thanks, that's really reassuring. I've cut down my tea and coffee quite a lot, have upped my water and found it's not such an ordeal to drink 2litres if I break it up.

I have plenty of herbal and fruit teas, including the 'Youthberry' tea sachets from Starbucks, that tea is lovely.

Hope everybody's having a good day.

Juanmorebeer · 14/05/2020 16:41

I'm doing OK today actually. I managed 16 hours fast then broke that with a coffee and a homemade smoothie.

After that I had 2 scrambled eggs and half a tin of beans for a quick lunch and then just made a spiced Butternut squash and sweet potato soup, small bowl now and the rest saved for lunch tomorrow.

Dinner today will be Brown rice and veg with a Tuna steak with salad veg and fresh lime.

I'm forcing DH to eat better too when he is at home, he is so reluctant.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 14/05/2020 17:18

Juanmorebeer, we're having Tuna steaks with salad too, reduced at Morrisons. My husband doesn't like this sort of food so he can eat the sausage rolls that i bought for him. His loss.

I was busy today and didn't 'end fast' until 3pm but I'll start again at 7pm as usual and it will be fine. Your soup sounds very nice!

atticuslovesscout · 15/05/2020 16:17

Hi, can I join please? I am going to start this tomorrow and looking for some support and tips to keep motivated.

Anthilda · 15/05/2020 20:34

I'd like to join.
Current weight 10st 2lbs would ideally like to get down to 8st due to being petite.
I feel huge and have gained throughout lockdown.
I started this week by eating OMAD and one treat biscuit plus loads of coffee (with milk) to get me through.
I thought about 16:8 this morning, after I had my morning coffee and 1 biscuit so it's been a matter of fasting for as long as I could from that point then will start properly tomorrow.
I lasted until 7 today so that's 12 hours.
Tbh by the time i ate i had kind of lost my appetite, i was moreso craving milky coffee (have been drinking it black all day).
So I ended up having a large milky coffee with 2 biscuits which broke my fast this evening. Then I had a chicken breast.
I feel guilty for eating the biscuits first. I should have had the chicken with a salad or something but I'm so tired & cant be arsed.
Tomorrow i will start properly and not wait so late for food.
I've also started running again.
Good luck everyone.

missyB1 · 15/05/2020 20:44

Hi all, I’ve been doing 16/8 since last September and by December I had lost a stone (which is all I wanted to lose). I do it 3 days a week now just to maintain the loss. I remember the first couple of months feeling difficult because I craved breakfast, (I eat between midday and 8pm), but after that it just became easy. I’m so glad I did it, I feel so much better for losing that stone.

Normanisan1sland · 15/05/2020 21:58

Can I join you :) I’ve just started this. I’ve been using bodyfast app and started this week with a ‘power week’.
It’s mostly 12-8 eating but there are a few 24 hr fasts this wk. The first full day fast wasn’t as hard as I thought and it definitely made me recognise the difference between feeling hungry and just boredom eating.
Here goes!

Finals1234 · 15/05/2020 23:29

Can I join you too! I've just started this today as I have a stubborn stone I would like to shift and I've been struggling with calorie counting and fixed diets when I don't have specific ingredients to hand.

Can I ask - does this need calorie counting during the eating times? I'm aiming for 11am-7pm as my eating times but really can't face anymore calorie counting.

lozaa · 16/05/2020 18:09

Can I also join I started on the 10th and have been ok so far

Anthilda · 16/05/2020 19:44

@Finals1234 I am also calorie counting but mostly just trying to keep track of what I am consuming.

Hope everyone has managed ok today. I did 20 hrs fast, had my coffee and biscuit at 5pm, kept myself busy most of the day but tbh not particularly hungry and no cravings.

I'm having a curry and wine tonight.
Had another loss this morning so down to 10st 1.
I hope I am doing this right, seems to be working so far anyway Smile

SkeletonSkins · 17/05/2020 13:03

Can I join please?

For around a fortnight now I’ve been trying to do a daily home work out (normally 30 mins of Zumba) and a 5k wall each day, but it’s not enough so I’ve started 16:8 and I just checked and today is my 5th fast so I’m really pleased with that! I read on another thread someone saying they’d rather be really hungry for a period but know they can eat a good meal than try and stick to smaller unsatisfying meals all day.

I think I was around 13stone 8 when I started (my scales are a bit broken, I’ve ordered new batteries) and I think I’ve lost about 2lb so far but I’ll report back tomorrow with a more definite measure.

I’m feeling really guilty today because I’ve hurt my knee somehow so I did absolutely no exercise yesterday and I’m just going to do my walk today but I’m thinking there’s no point pushing myself and making it worse.

I’m not binging in my eating windows but I could definitely eat healthier. I love what you said @SecretRed about cutting a bad thing out each week. I’m going to try this.

SkeletonSkins · 17/05/2020 13:05

Oh to add my first goal is to get to 12 stone as that puts me back into a healthy BMI.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 17/05/2020 13:42

Normanisan1sland, I'm using an ap too, Which ones is yours? Mine is 'Fastic'.

I started just over a week ago on 16:8, it's fine so far and I've stretched it for the last few days to 20 hours fasting. I might take a leaf out of your book and do a 24 hour fast to see how I like it. I have Exante shakes also because I keep running out of time to eat.

sar302 · 17/05/2020 18:45

I know I'm a week late, but id love to join.

Despite being fitter than I have been in years - I mean like keep grabbing DHs hand and shouting "feel this muscle!!!!" fit - I've somehow also put on about 10lbs in lockdown. A mix of being mostly sedentary during the day and eating chocolate on about an hourly basis if I had to guess...

The weekly shop has just arrived and I've ordered no crisps or chocolate.

DS will (hopefully) be going back to nursery mid-end of June, so I have a month before I have to vaguely rejoin society.

I'm aiming for an 11am-7pm eating window, no unhealthy snacks and more walking now. I have the fasting app Zero to help me along.

Finals1234 · 18/05/2020 09:53

I'm also doing 11am-7pm, but today I am really struggling. I did a workout this morning, and as soon as I finished (around 8.15am) I was absolutely starving!

I have a work call coming up in a sec and I am going to struggle to concentrate as I am SO hungry. I've had lots of hot water and lemon to keep me going till 11am. I really want a tea (with soya milk) to fill me up but I am worried it will undo my efforts and I'll fall back into a morning cuppa routine.

But I do like the idea of having a satisfying breakfast at 11am and not feel like I am eating tiny unsatisfying meals all day long.
