Anyone seen this new book ? . I've always done 5:2 but hit a plateau with it so I thought I'd try this but it just looks like the blood sugar diet plus 5:2 .

I haven't seen it, but I think from what you've said it sounds like a combination of those 2 plans. BSD is definitely lacking in a lifetime maintenance element, and he does suggest doing 5:2 after the initial 8 weeks. The original 5:2 had to be modified a bit as the 'eat normally on 5 days' got taken a little too literally. He also did an article maybe 2 years ago saying 800 cals on fast days and low carb/sugar free the rest of the time was as effective as his original fast diet. I might get it though, I'm a BSD veteran but I'm at target now so need to maintain, plus as new info is coming out all the time regarding low carb diets I like to read the new things when they come out.

collywobble · 05/01/2019 15:57

Yes it makes an interesting read. Kind of an updated version of the two combined and could be just the kick I need to restart. There are some new recipes and new research detailing Time Restricted Eating. I'm on day five now and it's just like BSD for now but once the weight comes off quickly ( fingers crossed) you can move on to a more manageable option.

I see there were recipes/meal plans for this in Daily Mail. Can anyone post one or two, please.

CarolDanvers · 07/01/2019 01:22

I'm starting this tomorrow. I have a stone to lose and am currently raging after my ex H told me how fat I looked in the Christmas photos my child showed him. I'm determined. Going for the two week fast track 800 calorie a day option.

Here's the link to our BSD thread,

Hi

I started on 800 cals yesterday having read the book feeling positive I have a stone and a half to lose .

sankz · 13/01/2019 06:18

I’m on Day 9. I’ve not read the book properly (it’s meant to arrive today) but used the booklets in The Daily Mail to get me going. I have about 1-1.5 stones to lose. Im planning on doing 2 weeks full on, then just doing weekdays and then eventually just two days per week. I think I’ve lost about 5lbs already and 1.5 inches off my waist.

I’m finding it quite full on, but only because I’m constantky in the kitchen preparing food for the kids and husband 🙄. I’m just doing soups and ready meals next week to help, but I’m wondering if that goes against the BSD element....

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/01/2019 09:57

Sanks be careful and read the labels and you could do it on ready meals. Soups can be very carb heavy I find (eg even tomato has a lot of fructose, plus often sugar added to offset the tartness). I find for ready meals the Iceland slimming world (or Asda's version) are ok and often have no added sugar. If you chose ones that aren't pasta/rice/potato based. Also those little portions of cod in butter sauce, or the Young's Gastro fish meals are nice and have minimal added carbs (but check the labels), you could serve those with green veg?

The other thing you could try would be a homemade shake (I do almond milk, frozen berries, peanut butter, avocado ) and use that as a meal replacement. It's high enough fat to keep you going.

VenusInfers · 14/01/2019 16:08

I'm on day 5 of the Fast 800 and according to the scales I have lost 7lbs Confused. As he says in the book, some of this will be water, but I feeling positive about hitting my 9lbs target by the end of week 2.

The first couple of days were quite hard, but my body seems to have adjusted now and going a whole morning on 10g of almonds seems almost easy. The mix of protein, veg, nuts and fats is very satisfying, even if the portions are small.

thisyeargoodyear · 14/01/2019 16:42

Hi everyone

It's my first ever post here but thought I would join in this thread. I am on Day 3 of following the fast 800 plan and I have lost almost 5 pounds already which I am really happy with. I am going to weigh in every 2/3 days. I have made quite a few recipes in the book and they have all been really good Smile

I am unable to exercise at the moment due to having a laparoscopy last week, so just going to focus on the diet until I am able to begin exercising again.

So far so good.

babooshkamybush · 14/01/2019 20:26

Day 8 of doing this. Not following meal planner but keeping under 800 calories a day as a kick start...12lbs lost. Most will be water and obviously it will slow dramatically but weirdly not finding it hard to stick to now the sugar headaches are gone (day 1-4 were hell)

babooshkamybush · 14/01/2019 20:27

Should say..am size 16-18 at present with a lot to lose so obviously easier for me to lose a chunk

nickdrakeslovechild · 14/01/2019 20:37

ooh can I join please? day 5 for me, trying this rather than Cambridge or Exante.
Going well so far, gone into ketosis today but got an awful headache so I need to up my water.

How's everyone doing?

I'm coming to the end of day 11 now and have lost 9lbs. Have stuck to the diet really well except for a bit of wine last night. It's generally been much easier than other diets I've followed. Aiming to do an extra few days and go to the end of next week. If I can lose a whole stone I will be on cloud 9 (and thinner than I've been for about 8 years)

Made the pea & spinach soup from the book today. Yum!

serves 2, 130 cal per portion

100g frozen spinach
200g frozen peas
stock cube
500ml water.

boil it all up for 5 mins or so, blend, serve with dessertspoon full of nat yogurt stirred through. Had it with a boiled egg.

thisyeargoodyear · 19/01/2019 20:16

Hi Venus

I am on my first day of week 2. Lost 8lb so far and have lost a good few inches of my waist and hips, much to my surprise!

I have stuck 100% to the plan so far - I am doing dry January which has been a great help. BUT, we are going out for breakfast tomorrow so I am just going to have this as my treat and then get straight back on plan. This will be a challenge for me as I tend to fold after having food I really enjoy (we are going to Dishoom so will be having a bacon nann).

Have you been exercising much? I haven't managed anything except light walking but I hope to increase my exercise in a couple of weeks.

Smile
nickdrakeslovechild · 20/01/2019 09:19

Hi Venus
Going really well, working my way though the recipies in the book, I made a curry Friday which was a bit of the Rogan Josh in the book, instead of mushroom and chickpeas I did Chicken thigh and half a bag of frozen butternut squash with 2 tins of tomatoes and a lot more Kale so it did a double portion so we had it Friday and Saturday night.

The nutty fish and brocccoli didnt go down to well with me or my partner!

Has anyone else tried the Rye Bread? I usually have a slice of that toasted with half an avacado and a poached egg and that lasts me unti dinner.

nickdrakeslovechild · 20/01/2019 09:20

Oh I dont know what I have lost as I was too scared to weigh myself for the first week as I have put on so much weight, but I have 3 stone to go.

VenusInfers · 21/01/2019 16:30

thisyeargoodyear that bacon naan sounds amazing! Hope you found it okay to get back on the wagon afterwards.

I've been keeping on with my regular exercise of a couple of runs a week, 1 yoga session and 1 swim, but found I needed to slow the run down a fair bit. Was def more tiring than usual.

nickdrakeslovechild i bet that curry was yum! I've found that I've been eating a lot of eggs, spinach and salad. Loved the smoothy recipe from the Daily Fail. Don't know why it wasn't in the book. So filling and tasty!

1 x 15ml tbsp full-fat greek yoghurt or dairy-free yoghurt
75ml semi-skimmed milk or dairy-free milk
40g frozen mixed berries, such as strawberries and blueberries
½ medium banana, peeled and roughly chopped (about 50g prepared weight)
1 x 15ml tbsp jumbo porridge oats
2 x 5ml tsp ground almonds

Just all blended or mixed with a blending wand thing.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/01/2019 16:48

I'm surprised that they've said banana, especially puréed, as they are really high in sugar/fructose, so that's probably why it wasn't in the book. If you're a smoothie fan venus there are some good recipes in the original BSD book too. I do mine with maca powder for fibre and peanut butter powder (much lower in cals than actual PB), and I do a small shot of green tea by leaving a tea bag to steep for ages in a small amount of hot water then add it to my mix.

Aldi and Lidl often have these sort of ingredients, things like cacao powder, spirulina, hemp protein, maca much cheaper than in Tesco or Holland and Barrett. They can be quite high in calories per gram because they are so concentrated so take care if you're on a fasting day.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 23/01/2019 16:15

Just bought the book - about to start reading

BlueJava · 23/01/2019 21:09

I'm very interested too - I am away no a business trip but the book has arrived and it's waiting for me at home. Plan to start on Saturday when business trip is over.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 24/01/2019 11:38

I see there is an online fast800 website support group - it's £99 for 12 weeks - am thinking of doing this but wondering whether it's worth the cost...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/01/2019 13:22

degusThere was one of those groups for the BSD as well, I think they have their benefits if you like a weekly weigh in or really need extra support, it's quite expensive though isn't it?

You could always join our Blood sugar diet thread, there are some new starters on there doing the fast800 and lots of help and support, recipe ideas etc

Yeah I'm thinking the extra support would be worth it - I need to be accountable... 😳
