Its probably no better to have the fruit to be honest, just different.
With the sugar free stuff it’s a bit like the old slimming world mentality (I think they’re phasing this out to a degree, but 3 years or so ago...) - ‘I’m overweight and I cannot manage without x,y,z on my plate or I will never stick to this diet’ - so you have a diet plan where you can eat 5 marshmallow wafers for the same ‘price’ as an ounce of cheese for example . This idea that you must ‘never be hungry’ and you can eat everything you used to and still lose weight. I used to do this and think like this so I’m really not criticising, I’m a long way into this journey that others are just starting out on. The reality is that you can’t eat everything you used to and still lose weight. The beauty of BSD is that every single morsel of food you eat nourishes your body. There are no empty calories, or fillers, or substitutions. It’s all the real deal.
The way I see it is, life’s too short to never have dessert ever again. But if that’s my mentality, then it’s also too short to have crap dessert. I want the real deal. That’s why I love this diet. So I’d prefer to add up all those calories over x weeks, and treat myself to the real deal very occasionally- because you can have occasional treats,^ you can^ trust yourself to have it, enjoy it, and then not have it because you’re no longer addicted to sugar. And going forward, a substantial reduction in the amount of times you eat /need/ have sugary foods and treats will be what sustains your weight loss and become part of your maintenance plan
Please don’t think I’m a) a halo wearing guru (because I’m not, and I still struggle a lot) and b) criticising your food choices (again, I’m not) - this is just my experience of it, and my strategy for coping with it. The switch from the traditional diet mentality to the BSD mentality is one of the biggest, most important changes I’ve ever made in my life and one of the most positive things I have ever done for my health.
