This thread is for those of us who have been practicing IF (Intermittent Fasting) for quite a while ( it being nearly 2 years since the Michael Mosely TV programme aired ) and are now at, or nearing, their target healthy weight.
It's also for anyone who is doing it for the health benefits alone.

How do we mix fasts and a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?
How do we ensure that this WOL keeps us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?
How do we ensure that we keep ourselves looking great rather than just thin?

More and more of us have been maintaining at our original goal weight for many months, and others are joining all the time.
Obviously, the more the merrier!
It is also worth considering whether a second, leaner target might be achievable.

You'll find the first four maintenance threads and all the main 5:2 threads for posters practising IF to lose weight here Fasting / 5:2 on the diet forum. We're currently on thread no. 46, but there is a new main thread every 2-3 weeks.

There are three other associated threads:
This one, which is an absolute goldmine of Tips and Links on how to practice IF, and the research behind it.

And here is a treasure trove of 5:2 recipes, mostly low calorie for fasting days, but there are also recipes for when you want to treat yourself. And, now we're maintaining, we'll need more of these!

Since I started the last Maintainers thread the importance of exercise has come even more to the fore, as part of our general health and to help weight loss. BigChocFrenzys thread is here

Well, 15 years ago I reported an ordinary pushbike stolen and the police said there was no chance of recovery (after I took a day off to go in their working hrs) Serial numbers are in pretty standard places and easy to swap customised lights and baskets.

They said themselves, unless insurance covered it, no practical benefit to me in reporting. Basically, they discourage reports of non-violent crime they've no intention of handling. The limit is now £5,000 before they take notice, I read. Sad state of affairs.

I'll have to find time to go to the bike shop for another and have that fitted out, so really don't want to waste yet more time.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/11/2014 13:37

I think bikes just gets resold, on ebay etc, so might be someone quite respectable riding it.

TalkinPeace · 23/11/2014 15:54

Oh blerdy ell Bigchoc that is awful - and awful that the police do not care
report it stolen, get a crime number regardless
claim on the insurance and make them aware
even if you get no money the stats will not be able to pretend it did not happen

MrsFlorrick · 23/11/2014 16:57

Bigchoc. Sad For you. I hope you get a new one sorted quickly.

I understand why you just want to move on and not waste time. However TIP is correct. We cannot pretend these things don't happen.

Still I hope your new ebike is even better. And you don't feel down for too long.

(((Hugs))))

Anglaise1 · 23/11/2014 18:07

(((()))) What scumbag(s). I'm so sorry. Agree with TIP at least report it and make the insurance aware even if they don't pay out easily. Bikes are usually kept outside aren't they, is there any proof of a broken lock or something?
Might be worth checking eBay to see if you see it for sale. One of my friends had a very good camera stolen once and found it for sale on Leboncoin (the French website everyone uses much more than eBay), the police went round, arrested the seller and the camera was reunited with its owner.

Southeastdweller · 23/11/2014 21:53

Oh no, BigChoc Sad. Really sorry to read this. Decent bikes aren't cheap these days, are they. Please do report it to the police.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/11/2014 23:55

Some folk on an AIBU Thread repeating the tired old crap that fasting even 7 hrs is dangerous.
I haven't posted there, as I'm in no mood to be polite.
Want to post sensibly, anyone - tip, betsy ....

MrsFlorrick · 24/11/2014 09:31

Bigchoc Grin perhaps you need to vent and let off some steam on aibu.... Wink

Seriously though Hmm what do all these folk think that humans did before we had Waitrose and coffee shops or even cold storage??

Mostly fasted until some basics had been gathered or something hunted and killed. Or if lucky a few left overs.

If fasting was so dangerous, mankind would simply not exist. We were designed to be hunter gathers which would involve fasting here and there until food had been foraged or hunted.

Hmm Let's all rush off to stuff ourselves at McDonald's in case we miss breakfast. Confused

No breakfast today. Not entirely deliberate. No bloody time and DC needing to get to school. Not sure I will last till dinner time but I will be happy to break fast at lunchtime. It is very cold today and it's making me hungry.

In current grumpy old bag mood, my mildest comment would have been "ignorant, out-of-date crap"

Hiya Bigchoc
Fancy looking up some links for me? ... you can see what direction I'm dragging the thread

looks like I killed their thread
maybe its because what I was typing accords exactly with what the "I'm a sleb" gang are going through Grin

This recent CDC Study into why USA waistlines are expanding highlighted 2 factors in addition to calorie intake:
. Lack of sleep - too many folk are over-stressed and over-worked
. Endocrine disruptors - chemicals surrounding us in everyday life. I mentioned this before, from another study.

BigChocFrenzy · 25/11/2014 20:09

I've never done mfp, so can anyone answer CrockedPots qn about FDs on the main thread, please ?

BigChocFrenzy · 26/11/2014 20:34

Well, I reported it to the police and filled out the voluminous insurance form - which had some really strange questions:

  • Q: Who is responsible for the loss or damage ? (name, address)
A: Unknown Thief
  • Q: Does this person have liability insurance ?
Confused A: Um, I don't think so ! Grin
TalkinPeace · 26/11/2014 20:54

I gather that traditional fare includes sweet potato pie with marshmallows. Sounds more like a pud, but I'm sure you'll enjoy the turkey.
I found USA pmut butter inedible due to masses of added sugar. They seem to add even more sugar to processed food than we do.

I've just bought a massive bike padlock, security grade 10, the toughest and quite heavy.
However, it's just on my spare bike atm.
I'm looking for a new place within 2 mins of gym, with a garage (for my bikes), so I may defer buying a new bike until then.

TalkinPeace · 28/11/2014 19:28

we had simple British fare
and today at works lunch had posh british fare

bike locks : a PITA but essential nowadays!

BigChocFrenzy · 29/11/2014 12:47

The thief cut / picked my grade 4 THICK spiral lock in 30 mins on my yard.
Hopefully my £70, 2.5 kg (!) grade 10 lock will suffice.
I had my old e-bike rejuvenated yesterday with a nearly new battery, so it is scampering along like a new pup. I'm in no hurry to buy again.

Breadandwine · 02/12/2014 20:21

Woohoo! Just ate the last mouthful of dinner at 6.00pm exactly - so I can start my 24hr exactly on time for a change. [Posted late - now 2 hours in!]

Let your bike get a bit rusty, BC - get it as scruffy as possible to make it less attractive to low-lifes.

It's early days, but I think that we vegans may have a secret weapon when it comes to nipping a biscuit, or sweet, binge in the bud. The other day I'd eaten 5 spekulatus biscuits from Lidl and wanted more. I thought, this is bloody ridiculous, I need to stop, but my mouth still wanted more. I then realised I needed to divert my taste buds, so I had half a teaspoon of nutritional yeast (nooch), something that every vegan has in the cupboard.

And, lo and behold, it did the trick! I've tried it twice since, after eating something sweet, and both times it's taken away the desire to eat more.
