This thread is for those of us who have been practicing IF (Intermittent Fasting) for quite a while and are now at, or nearing, their target healthy weight.
It's also for anyone who is doing it for the health benefits alone.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?
How do we ensure that this WOL keeps us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?
How do we ensure that we keep ourselves looking great rather than just thin?

Many of us have been maintaining at our original goal weight for many months, and others are joining all the time.
Obviously, the more the merrier!
It is also worth considering whether a second, leaner target might be achievable.

You'll find the first three maintenance threads and all the main 5:2 threads for posters practicing IF to lose weight here Fasting / 5:2 on the diet forum. We're currently on thread no. 35, but there is a new main thread every 2-3 weeks.

There are three other associated threads:
This one, which is an absolute goldmine of Tips and Links on how to practice IF, and the research behind it.

And here is a treasure trove of 5:2 recipes, mostly low calorie for fasting days, but there are also recipes for when you want to treat yourself. And, now we're maintaining, we'll need more of these!

Since I started the last Maintainers thread the importance of exercise has come to the fore, as part of our general health and to help weight loss. BigChocFrenzys thread is here

Filly. Thanks. Not to worry. It was a false alarm thankfully!!!! Grin Much relieved but thank you.

I'm currently playing with my new toy. I bought one of those robot vaccums. It's brilliant! And fun Grin. Got this one as it was half the price of most of the other ones iclebo.com/english/

In 15 mins is tackled all the DC breakfast debris on floor as well as hoovered the hallway and filthy playroom. And all I had to do was press a button. Shock

I doubt it will replace full weekly in depth hoovering of the whole house but it will certainly make less work for me in between. Particularly given the spectacular mess the DC make on the floor whilst eating (meals or snack it looks like a bomb has hit the place after they've finished). And the playroom and hallway is forever littered with debris. If I wanted to keep it clean at all times I'd be hoovering most of the ground floor 3x per day.

So high hopes for this gadget. So far so good.

I'm so behind on technology that you're all going to come and tell me you've all had one of these for ages now.

TalkinPeace · 03/06/2014 17:46

MrsF
DH really, really wants a Roomba (he wants to hack it and then let the cats ride on it) but our house is laid out wrong!

Betsy
TBH when I'm at happy weight my 2nd fast is normally pretty half arsed - around 850 calories and maybe more if I'm getting to the gym a lot.
At maintenance you do not "need" the deficit, and the increased muscle proportion ups the TDEE

Anglaise. Hope you're doing ok?!

WineThanks For you.

Am Angry for you.

Eatriskier · 03/06/2014 18:17

mrsF I really want a roomba too as I'm bloody lazy, however I still think we have too much stuff for it to clean around. Though sadly the clear out we have had has meant its technically easier for me to hoover Sad

betsy my fasts aren't even calorie counted at all, just 16hrs or 24hrs with the attempt to still to non junk food.

So today I decided to pimp my wine glasses. Here's the result.

IF / ADF / 4:3 / 5:2 / 6:1 / 16:8 ~ Maintaining at a healthy weight ~ Chapter 4
MrsFlorrick · 03/06/2014 19:11

Eatriskier. I looked at the Roomba and reviews plus various online tests, comparisons and utube vids.

Some of these robot vacuums are v noisy inc the Roomba. Plus as I said the Roomba was twice the price of the Iclebo.

I left it to Hoover upstairs while I went on school run and its done the whole lot. And it's immaculate.

I took it back down stairs to tackle post dinner DC debris and it did that while I bathed DC. Sooooo lovely to come downstairs after bath and bedtime and not have to get handheld out or down on hands and knees. Grin V pleased.

That said. I wouldn't blow £700 on one of these but £300/£400 oh yes def worth it!!

Now all I need is a dusting robot Wink

DH just said the robot Hoover will leave me more time to clean the windows Angry

BetsyBell · 03/06/2014 21:19

I must admit, I'm enjoying the additional TDEE BUT I can't actually eat big enough meals to get up to TDEE if I do all the fasting, even with my nut addiction!

I'm loving the muscles MrsF, filly, I love that I have really powerful punches and kicks. 6 months of Tae Kwon Do has done that, and I'm having the most fun I've ever had with it.

I love youtube videos of cats and other animals riding on roombas. If I had one I'm sure the cats would be furious and would not be entertain on it at all. We could do with one though, cat hair makes for large dust bunnies.

TalkinPeace · 03/06/2014 21:35

I have a nice little man who cleans the outside of the windows and I pretend the insides are not dirty Grin
And dusting is for people with less books and robots than my house contains!

MrsF Filly thanks for your ((())) - I'm fine, been there, seen it, done it before (sadly) but at least this time it is coming up to summer and not Christmas so things are easier. Plus running does amazing things for your head. It isn't always easy being a single mother in a foreign country but I've got some good friends now even if family aren't on the doorstep. And my kids are great, and happy, that's the important thing.
Betsy I find that one fast a week is plenty now I'm running a lot. If you are doing a lot of exercise you do burn off more calories, it is good that you aren't eating more to compensate. I'm an almond addict and can easily eat 100g which is around 500 cals so I'm definitely not losing weight! But I never eat a big dinner in the evening. Note to self must start upper body exercises as Big Choc advised to cover up rib cage and shoulder blades.
I think I'm sad as I quite enjoy hoovering, although I'd love to see one of the cats on a Roomba!

BetsyBell · 03/06/2014 21:53

Anglaise I've started thinking that nut calories don't count for much after all - I get through masses of the things but just seem to burn through them Grin Almonds are my current favourites. Almond butter too.

Press ups really work. It took me a while to crack it but I love them now - and I love the lack of protruding chest ribs now too. I'm starting to really love the running too, I love how it changes your headspace.

I just love a lot of things at the moment apparently!

MrsFlorrick · 03/06/2014 22:57

Grin Betsy. I will have to try and get the guinea pigs to ride the robot. Now that would be amusing. Grin

The DC absolutely loved it!!! They kept trying to talk to it and point out dirt to it Grin. The fact it doesn't talk was a small disappointment. I worry about the DC....

I need to get more muscle. Now where are my JM workouts.....Blush

MrsFlorrick · 03/06/2014 23:01

And Betsy. Almond butter (drools)
I can eat that stuff by the jar full with a spoon. Wink

TIP. I would pay someone to clean the windows but no one wants to
Do them. I've had a few window cleaners around for qoutes but they've all said no thanks Confused. No one likes leaded windows particularly in large numbers.

Anglaise1 · 04/06/2014 09:22

Betsy I've never put on weight when eating nuts, even in huge quantities, even thought they are high in calories. Strange! Crisps on the other hand, completely different.
There is a study that found that people who ate almonds regularly were less likely to be overweight and eating them can actually help you lose weight.
Health Benefits of Almonds

BetsyBell · 04/06/2014 11:30

Awesome link Anglaise - very happy to read that Grin

There's some almond trees round the corner from my house, I'm watching them ripen with much interest...

MyWonderfulMimi · 04/06/2014 19:32

Fascinating link, thanks Anglaise. DH has a few almonds every day, so perhaps I should join him. Where do I find almond butter in the supermarket - with peanut butters/jams etc?

MrsFlorrick · 04/06/2014 20:15

Yes along side peanut butter.

Holland and barratt do almond butter and hazelnut butter (drools).

Southeastdweller · 04/06/2014 20:42

Mimi I have the Meridian almond butter from Ocado or Sainsbury's which costs £2.39 a jar. I've also noticed that having this and almonds in their original form hasn't made me put on weight.

Not in the right frame of mind to do an update at the moment but will do soon. But I will say that I'm on track for one years maintenance in six weeks time. Think I'll treat myself to a bottle of Bolly Smile.

MyWonderfulMimi · 04/06/2014 20:57

Thanks Mrs F/Southeast, I'll check next time I'm shopping. Southeast well done for almost 1 year maintenance - I love a glass (or two) of bubbly.

Laska42 · 04/06/2014 21:39

Hi all, well ive lost it, completely and utterley lost it.. dont know why ..

Am on Greek holiday in 2 weeks and i think im on 5:2 and bikini self sabotage.. I know what to do , I know that i do want to be thin, I know that i just have to stop eating everyday and have some time fasting.. but im just not doing it ..

Scales are 12lbs up now..Shock Somehow I have to get back into 5:2 headspace before they hit 11st again ,, but I just dont seem to be able to . ..

I know what you will all say, as well......"Stop ar$eing around Laska and Just do it .."

Anyway just to let you know that I havent fallen off a cliff in case you were wondering .. Im well,( except for scales) family well, Grandson still georgeous and have had no big life disasters responsible for my 5:2 malaise .. and I will be back...

but maybe after the hol now..
..

TalkinPeace · 04/06/2014 21:50

Laska
I'll hazard a guess
wine
one of the family riles I was brought up was to never drink alone
I also try not to drink on week days - booze is THE KILLER (600 calories per bottle of red and that is before you get the munchies)

OP posts:
Southeastdweller · 04/06/2014 21:56

600 cals for a bottle of red tip? That sounds low. I thought a bottle was at least 1000? I only drink twice a week, would like to drink more ideally (about 4x a week) but like I keep saying, boozing can play havoc with maintenance...

Eatriskier · 04/06/2014 22:15

I also work to 600 cals for a bottle of red! Though a whole bottle of red does wonders for me, I call it a juice detox Wink tmi

Laska42 · 04/06/2014 22:17

Wine hasnt helped (you know me too well..Wink), but im still (mostly) sticking to no drinking during the week..

Its just the amount im eating .. (and the taste for very dark chocolate ive developed .. I never used to allow myself to eat when i did WW ) , cheese , butter bread and eating everyday.. no fasting at all. . (oh... and sitting on me bum too much) ..

Only 600? i usually count 750.. (but yes now i look it up..)

TalkinPeace · 04/06/2014 22:21

Laska
at the moment I'm working full time so I only allow myself 100 calories of food (plus unlimited tea with milk) outside supper time - as I only tend to manage 900 calories at supper so am running enough of a deficit to allow for ferk all exercise and weekend booze

think weekly, not daily

eat wine = detox - luff that

OP posts:
Southeastdweller · 04/06/2014 22:32

600 cals is right according to Google...but I think I'll stick to five days abstinence. I guess it's not so much the wine itself but the munchies afterwards that can do serious damage.

BetsyBell · 04/06/2014 22:38

Also, booze calories are of a special kind that instantly turn into jelly fat around your abdomen in my experience Grin Very different to eating 600 calories of almonds...

And the tipsy munchies.

And the high calorie recovery food the next day.
