Nervous to start cerazette

user1359 · 12/05/2018 19:13

It's my only option more or less but I'm sooo put off by the likely incessant bleeding. I keep putting it off for one reason or another - to avoid a wedding, a holiday etc. Is it ok??

I was going to start a thread on Cerazette but pleased to see this! I have been advised to switch from mercillon, which I take back to back. No periods, no breakthrough bleeding and clear skin. I have only stopped when pg and bf. my concern is the lack of control over bleeding, which is my main reason for being on the pill. They say only 40% get no bleeding.

I guess I ll have to try it for a few months.

Olivo I still haven't got my prescription but I'll be starting with you!

Olivo · 21/05/2018 19:36

Good luck user! Am really despondent about it, I have to admit. Came totally out of the blue when I went to get my normal pill renewed. Now I feel really old Sad

user1300 · 21/05/2018 19:46

Why do you have to change olivo? I can't have combined anymore due to migraines.

MummyCuddlesSolveEverything · 21/05/2018 20:00

I started taking cerazette about 8years ago and it's great. I have had a couple of short periods in that time, whereas when I had the coil I had heavy really long periods.
I take it because I can't have combination pill because of family medical history.

They changed it to cerelle at some point but I really haven't noticed a difference.

Hope it works for you too.

Because of my age, I think. 44. Risk of stroke? Not aware of anything else. My blood pressure is often a bit high when they take it but mostly due to white coat syndrome.

Good to hear lots of positive stories on here, and to know to push for cerazette itself.

Right so I couldn't get an appt at my GP for a month so went to family planning and they gave this...

Wwyd? Take it or wait for branded one from GP next month?

Take the non-branded one. There is very little variation in Cerazette/desogestrel/whatever they want to call it. I seem to have a new name every 3 months but it's all the same and hasn't bothered me one jot.

LooseyInTheSky · 25/05/2018 15:03

Interesting to read that women have had different experiences up thread. I've been on the mini pill for over a decade and not had a period in all this time. No differing symptoms as the brand varied at all.

twerkit · 31/05/2018 17:26

I got proper cerazette Smile too late for this cycle though, so another month to wait to start but I definitely will.

Topsy1976 · 31/05/2018 17:30

I've been on it for years without a period and love it! One thing that's changed though is my sex drive. Could be other factors of busy life and getting older but it's almost zero. Has anyone else felt that too?

SarahLou2018 · 31/05/2018 18:19

Im glad I noticed this post as I thought it was just me but yes topsy my sex drive went on this pill too, had no idea it was quite so bad until I stopped taking it!

Topsy1976 · 31/05/2018 20:59

Thanks Sarah Lou! I'm reassured that it's the pill most likely, rather than time to put me out to pasture. Although not sure whether sex drive for periods is a good swap!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 27/06/2018 18:01

I've been taking cerazette for a month now, I was apprehensive after reading the negative experiences however, so far so good. Clear skin, no weight gain, seems to have lessened my awful pmt and I am not depressed. My sex drive is unchanged and my last period was less heavy. I am impressed so far and hopefully this suits me.

avoschmado · 27/12/2018 18:21

I it's been sat in my drawer for months. My periods are painful but manageable and regular so I'm not too turned on by the idea of irregular bleeding so keep saying "next month" to start the pill.

olivo · 29/12/2018 16:20

I am two months or so in and apart from a tiny bit of breakthrough bleeding at the end of the first 4 weeks, ( wore a liner for one day) I have had nothing. Really glad I took the plunge.
